Social Climbing.

Today on Gold Digger’s blog they have a crazy-good post on this Omotesando climbing wall. It brings new life to exercising. I actually might have a glimmer of interest in actually climbing this wall just to check out all the cool elements it’s made up of. You probably thought this was part of my obsession with white, but this is actually a fancy Toyko gym designed by Yanko Design and and Oki Sato of Nendo.

Instead of the usual outdoorsy climbing wall, they came up with the idea of using interior design elements like picture frames, mirrors, deer heads, bird cages and flower vases to create a challenging wall with hard-to-find holds in the hopes that this Omotesando-style climbing wall “inspires newcomers to try out the sport, and starts a new wave in fitness with style.” Really brilliant. And gorgeous.

Thanks for sharing, Gold Digger.

Room and Board. Above and Beyond.

My Room & Board Modern slip covered sofa arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait! Some of you may have noticed some of the negative comments being posted a few posts back when I first shared about my exchange from the Jasper to the Modern. Well, as it turns out, those comments were being made by a disgruntled employee at Room and Board. When it was discovered, I was contacted by R&B customer service right away and they put my mind at rest. They, as they always have, give excellent service, have a more than fair exchange policy and overall, are a really nice company to deal with. So if you had any concerns about those snarky comments, you can rest your pretty little heads. All is well at Room & Board. I can’t wait to grab a book, light a fire and plop down on my new Modern.

Oh, and happy, happy Friday.

And a reminder – it’s the first Sunday of the month so it’s time for the Alameda Flea Market. You can get there from here.

Peas. Carrots. And Corn.

When I was little, my parent’s decor consisted of orange velvet club chairs, a cream colored sofa with yellow and green accent pillows, a big flagstone fireplace, a mid-century modern teak hi-fi and some oddly large, olive-stained wood grape things sitting on the pedestal base coffee table. But what I remember most were those colors: olive green, burnt orange, and goldenrod yellow. What I referred to as peas, carrots and corn. Just like the wee corner of vegetables they gave you in your favorite TV dinner aluminum tray. It cracks me up when I think of it now. Those colors are strong and present again, but with a fresh twist. Marimekko uses them a lot. But the fresh twist is evident. The twist was needed.

Nomade Hotel.

Not exactly furniture, not just a box. The ‘Hotel’ Box designed by Pure Nomade can really work hard as both. They can be stacked, up to ten high, or perhaps long and low as a horizontal room divider, or even lining the floor of a really nice looking closet. We probably all need better looking closets. Designed by Lilian Adler and her partner Søren Berg, these little hotels rock. Bright colors and patterns (there are solids, too), with fun geometric shapes and die-cut windows, they’ll accommodate accessories, books, shoes – whatever you love and like to display. And they really look and work great as a chair or bed side table. Fun and functional, they come flat – you pop them open add a couple rubber bands, and instant hotel. Perfect for just about any kind of guest. Check in and check ‘em out.
