Surf Style – Part Deux.

Awhile back last summer, I posted about the carefree style that one might call surfer chic…very bohemian modern, sleek and super casual. I though I’d do a remix on that post, one featuring hues of soft seafoam and aqua blues, green, and yellow – the color of fun in the sun. Here’s a peek at what I would call surfer chic. Hopefully with the sunnier weather on the way, this gives you a bit of inspiration to put all those warm warm woolies away and get out those flip flops!

A good mix would include lots of sleek mid-century modern natural woods
and rattan, California pottery in fun, pastel colors, and vintage surf genre.

Sources for montage images come from my flickr photo stash: but some good resources for surf style include beach mats from Chinatown; fun Sunburst Click and Xenia Wall Art from Urban Outfitters; Moore Table Lamp In Golden Opal from Room & Board; and Natural Mid Century Modern Sofa from Urban Outfitters.

Big News!

I know I’ve been threatening this for some time now, but kids, it’s officially official…I have quit my job. Oh my! Actually, I have given a month’s notice, so come May 23, I am all yours! Now comes the scary part, which involves taking this blog to the next level…kicking it up a notch, so to speak. So, I’m going to need all the support y’all can muster! I hope you will hang in there with me while I make new and improved advances for sfgirlbybay. And if anyone has any thoughts about what I can add, subtract, or do to make sfgirlbybay a better experience for you, please comment here, or drop me a line. Oh, and maybe say a few toasts that I have not lost my bloody mind, as well. Real jobs, they’re really overrated, right?

Stumped About Mother’s Day?

Wondering what to get mum this Mother’s Day? The ladies of Branch Floral Design and Small Stump have teamed up to put together a very special Mother’s Day package. The focal point of the gift is a beautiful mix of seasonal flowers arranged in one of their fabulous birch bark tubes. It comes with a hand-silkscreened pansy puff sachet with a light lemon grass scent, and a message to your mum can be written on the little white cloud on the hand-made mama and baby rabbit tag. The arrangement sits on a pretty tray in a bed of fresh wheat grass, making quite a lovely centerpiece for Sunday brunch. The girls are taking orders through Wednesday, May 7 and will be hand delivering the goods on Saturday, May 10th. Click here for pricing and ordering information.

Greetings From Venice, California.

I received an email a while back from architect Tatiana Barhar of Verdego Design, and ever since I’ve been following the major remodel she and her family have been undergoing of their lovely modern home in Venice, California. In the meantime, the family has been residing in a 26′ long, 200 square foot 1962 Airstream trailer they’ve set up in their backyard until their fabulous new home is finished. Tatiana designs really cool retail spaces for such clients such as Quicksilver, Roxy and Vans shops and has designed her family’s new home herself, along with Carlos Zubieta. I love all the tall, floor to ceiling windows looking out to the lush green exteriors, which almost feels tree house like to me. Such nice, open flowing rooms – a welcome change from the somewhat cramped Airstream, I bet!

Work on the 1750 square foot remodel is getting closer to completion and I wanted to share a little bit of the amazing work being done. They’ve been at this project for fourteen months now and are quite ready to start living large, and move out of the the tiny trailer, which Tatiana has said was a challenge, indeed! I would have loved to get my hands on that Airstream, but as soon as work is complete, off it goes to live at a shrimp farm in La Paz, Baja California, owned by a family friend where they can visit it periodically when nostalgia takes over. I have a feeling with a lovely home like this, those visits could be few and far between! Thanks so much for sharing Tatiana and congratulations on the design of your beautiful new home.
