Uptown Girl.

I first read about Uptown Country on design*sponge a few weeks ago, and I fell in love with the beautiful line of pillows and bedding they carry from Pine Cone Hill. Pine Cone Hill products have lots of really feminine, yet brightly colored fabrics and patterns, and can modernize and update a real country look and give it a fresh, more contemporary palette.

Uptown Country’s concept was born out of the owner’s desire to take the cozy cottage style and blend it with the uptown classy tastes of today. The shop carries unique vintage finds and one of a kind treasures, as well as loads of great new products, like the Pine Cone Hill line you see here.

Tonight, At The Beautiful BellJar.

Tonight at the San Francisco Mission’s BellJar, the gallery will be showing the lovely work of Jen Lobo, artist and dreamer from Pasadena, California. Jen Lobo adores all things feathered & furred, avian & aquatic. Her work is a testament to that love of the natural world with a blend of human themes of love, loss, tragedy, & triumph. This is Jen Lobo’s first exhibition in gouache.

Not Buffy’s Mr. French.

I have long been a big fan of Charles S. Andersen’s French Paper Co. If your a graphic designer, or just love paper, you will love Mr. French papers. Established in 1871, not only is their packaging and paper sample book design hip and amazing, their papers are simply beautiful and mostly recycled, and French is a family-run paper mill.

And they don’t just make great paper, there’s their fun line of products, Pop Ink. Pop art products including, clockwise from left to right (below): Melamine Dinnerware; their funky Decor A Boards Plaque; wonderful gift Soaps; a line of fun Notecards; and party Cocktail Napkins.

And then, almost best of all, there’s also an amazing collection of stock illustration and graphics from Charles S. Andersen’s incredible collection of old advertising icons. If you’re in need of a vintage looking stock image or graphics, CSA Images is the place to start your search.

For example, I just search for ‘typewriter’ on CSA and hundreds of
fun icons like these above popped up on the screen, all with affordable usage fees.

Tub Time.

I adore spending alone time in my bathroom. I love soaking in a big bubble bath, candles lit, a glass of Pinot at an easy reach. Ahhh, a little slice of heaven. Just me and Mr. Bubbles. Privacy, quiet time to soak in the day’s events and clear the head. So, I try hard to keep my bathroom an organized, clean and feminine space to luxuriate in. I found some inspiring and beautiful bathrooms I thought might entice and encourage you to make your own special realm for private time.

I love the idea of keeping fresh towels tucked away in a vintage curio cabinet.
I love the contrast of these dark charcoal gray walls against the bright white tile;
and a cozy, antique rug really warms up a tiled bathroom floor.

Can you imagine having the extravagant luxury of a fireplace in your bathroom!? Nice!
I love a little side table near the tub’s edge for storing special soaps and bathing products.

Bathrooms are a great place to take chances with decorating, like filling a
wall with old photos and memorabilia; and using a metal bakers rack
for storing bath accessories looks so great.

When Shopping Makes a Difference.

I read about a new product line at Macy’s, of all the somewhat surprising places in Domino’s Giving Back regular magazine feature. It’s called Macy’s Path to Peace project, and features beautiful baskets created in Rwanda. Proceeds from sales are funneled to Rwanda, providing food, housing and health care for women and children of Rwanda. It’s a great way to shop and help support a sustainable Rwandan economy. And the weaving is incredibly beautiful and quite affordable! Other great resources for shopping for a cause include: Aid to Artisans, Join Red, and Tom’s Shoes.
