From ‘Playingwithbrushes‘.I’m headed out of town tomorrow, to a very special blogger’s wedding in Savannah, Georgia. If ya’ll have checked in with Grace at design*sponge, you’ll know she’s been planning this wedding for months, and I am so excited to be there for her special day! And, I’m pretty darn excited about seeing Savannah for the first time, too. I just know I’m going to love it! In honor of that, I thought I’d share some real southern hospitality with you – in the form of front porches. Very few houses are built with friendly front porches these days – seems like the porch has taken a backseat to the backyard! But I love the idea of rocking on a nice porch swing, sippin‘ minted ice tea and saying hey to the neighbors. So, here’s to front porches everywhere – let’s bring ‘em back!

you’ll need some lemonade on those savannah porches. parker’s market. . .hands down best lemonade. it’s a gas station/natural foods market, but trust me.
p.s. i’m missing the haint blue ceilings and my grandmother’s honeysuckle right about now!
I LOVE front porches and I think everyone should spend more time on their front porch (if they have one) and get to know their neighbors!!!
There truly is nothing like a Southern porch… one of the things I miss most about the east. Savannah is GORGEOUS—oh, I bet it’s going to be sooo beautiful! Enjoy!
Oh I just KNOW you will be charmed by that old southern city. I went there two yrs ago for my cousin’s wedding and I expected to hate it (i spent two yrs of college in the south, bleck).
BUT Savannah surprised me so. It’s an artist’s dream.

We love porches too. So much so, we bought a house once because of it and also we created a web site dedicated to them. Life is short, enjoy your porch!
Thanks for taking me back to my roots. I left Alabama for SF sixteen years ago and miss certain parts of it, porches the most. The photo by Mark Strozier looks exactly like my grandmother’s porch in Anniston, AL. I spent many an evening sitting on a rusty metal glider that squeaked every time you moved. Great memories, thanks!

Circa Lighting is a dream, and check out Pinch of the Past. Food at Alligator Soul and 700 Drayton is fantastic, and the upstairs bar is supposed to be quite fun. Have fun, it’s a great city to visit. Just wandering from square to square is a great afternoon. Enjoy!
savannah is great, and i hope you'll get to tybee, too! i live on wilmington island so i have the best of both worlds (between savannah & tybee!)

God, it all looks so beautiful! I’d love to spend some time in one of those beautiful houses. It reminds me of the landscapes from some stories I read as a kid, imagination really wakes up in places like that. Heavenly photos!
