time out with erin: exploring.

Get to know your town. So what if you don’t live in New York City, Los Angeles, or even San Francisco [although I'm totally jealous of you SF'ers out there!]? Chances are your town has all sorts of hidden nooks and crannies that you don’t yet know about. Start with your library, local cafe or even a street market in the summertime. Take your camera, snap some photos and chat with strangers.

Whatever your interest is, be sure to keep a journal of your finds a la Urban Weeds, a fun new street style blog for Portland fashion. Perhaps you love food like this Boston foodie who takes photos and journals her favorite local meals. Whether you journal your experience online or with a pen and paper, the fun doesn’t stop. Bonus? You’ll uncover a few hidden gems you can share at your next dinner party. Happy exploring!

there are many people who live in cities like you mentioned who don’t take advantage of it. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. it doesn’t matter where you live, there’s always something interesting if you just look. great post!

I’m glad other people have acknowledged that one’s hometown usually (in almost all cases!) has amazing things hidden in places generally overlooked, and beauty that no one opens their eyes wide enough to notice. I freaked when I saw this was from Portland, my hometown, because it really needs some representing! Thank you!

I’m starting an effort to go to all of the stops on the Subway for an afternoon and look around, take some pictures…should be fun!
