who thought up this odd pruning idea first, do you think? the flintstones, or versailles? cracks me up when trees look like poodles.

    The Poodle look is a Japanese aesthetic thing.
    West Los Angeles has one one every other block or more. It is a reflection of the “Ikebana” floral arrangement style. We got Pom-Pom-Poodle bushes all over town!

    Just lovely – I did actually see a topiary poodle once – if only I’d photographed it! This would be it’s big moment!

    We are puzzled by the sight of these “sculpted” plants. Seems to occur mostly in front of the Marina style homes in the sunset district. To each his own I suppose – though I still can’t help saying “poor plant” when I see them! :)

    Those were super popular when I was a little kid in SF – we ever so briefly lived in the outer Sunset and they were all over. I called them lollipop trees :)
