article reports Flea Market is On.

as of saturday, october 31st: important update: this article says the Alameda Flea Market is back on.
what the heck is going on? is it the end of the world? first, the bay bridge closes for more repairs (which i in no way make light of – it’s a commuters’ disaster), but now, what really hits me close to my heart is the possible closure of this month’s Alameda Flea Market.
i originally posted per a banner on the official Alameda Flea Market website that it would be closed, based on this statement they released saying “Proceedings have been commenced for the voluntary dissolution of Antiques By The Bay, Inc. As a result the show scheduled for Nov 1, 2009 will not take place.” Now, that banner has been removed from the site, and I hear rumors it’s all due to feuding partners. so, it sounds like it could be back on and you could take your chances. that’s the latest news i have (6:15pm). however, with the bay bridge still closed, personally, i’m finding another way to spend my sunday.
i do apologize for all the confusion, but their official website has had quite conflicting news. I don’t know what this means going forward, but it’s sad news for vendors (and vintage, antique shop sellers) who depend on their living from these shows, and buyers like a lot of us who adore it if it should shut down. I’ll keep you posted!

Say what? That’s just awful! I love the flea market. I was even thinking of having booth next spring/summer.
Wow. I’m shocked.
that’s so sad! hopefully enough people will rally and bring it back since i know i’d be devastated if i lost my flea market in L.A.
I know! I’m not sure if anyone knows yet quite what’s happening going forward, but hopefully if this space closes, they’ll find new land to hold the flea market – this has happened for the third time since I’ve lived in SF.
OH NO! I was really hoping to shop there one day. I live in Dallas and we suffer from a lack of flea markets, but it just doesn’t seem right that this one would end. Keep us posted and we’ll keep our fingers crossed!
Dang. Love that flea market. First Domino and now this?
My friend, Marissa, is a vendor. I will let you know if she passes along any info!
katherine – that would be great. we’re hearing conflicting news that the partners are feuding and no tables will be provided, but to show up. with the bay bridge closed, i think i have to take a miss until this gets sorted out. so sad!
I’m no longer seeing the closing statement on the Alameda Flea’s website, so hopefully that’s good news!
yes – they took the notification down. rumor has it the two partners are feuding, so i don’t know what to think, but since the bridge may be closed, it may be one i’m just going to have to miss.
According to their answering machine the show is cancelled. Wish we could get some straight answers.
gosh DARN that bridge! took me 3 hours to get from downtown SF to the easy bay tonight and now this! ARRRGGGGGG
How much longer is the bridge supposed to be closed?
it’s not beause of the bridge – it’s a disagreement between the partners.
and we don’t know – it’s all up in the air at this point – keep checking their in the website link above, or call. the phone message the last i heard, said it’s off.
i got an email from the guy who organizes the vintage paper fair in SF.
here’s what he said:
Hello Collectors – I don’t usually write regarding other shows but there is a rumor around that the Alameda Point show November 1 has been cancelled. This is NOT true. Apparently, there is a dispute between the partners. I just spoke to owner Allen Michaan who assured me there WILL be a show.

by the way, victoria do you go to the vintage paper fair? it comes to the city 3 times a year. the next one is in January, i bet you would love it. i go every time and always get cheap ephemera.

i guess we will just have to wait and see if the show is really coming back.
annie – thanks for your update. yes, i’ve heard that message from Allen Michaan, too. however the message on their voicemail still says canceled. so, for me personally, with the bridge closure, just seems too chancy. i’ll save up and (hopefully!!) go next month, if it’s on.

Ana – Thanks so much – I have updated the post. Sounds like it’s back on!
My boss just spoke to Alan McCon, the owner of The Alameda flea and he told us that for sure the Flea is on for this Sunday.
Thank you.
Thanks Patti – I posted a link that says it’s back on at the top of the post. I’ll post again later.
Okay now I was just sent this reply to my email asking if it was on, or off:

Hi Victoria,
I’m sorry to let you know but we are canceling the show. There are irreconcilable issues between the partners. They have decided to dissolve the company. Thank you for your understanding.
Thank you,
Soco
Hey, Victoria-
Whaa??! I have someone working for me Sunday so I could go. I’m glad I checked your blog tonight! I will keep checking. Thanks for the post.

Hi Victoria. Go often, was completely clueless about possible closing. Arrived this morning…@ 7:00…letting people in for 7:30 rate. Bit of loud talk/arguing in front row @ tables/set up. As I quickly scoped the place out, picked up vendors talking about some “issue”. Sadly, slim pickens, lots of empty stalls, pretty much made up my mind to end my 6 month run of attendance. Thanks for the back ground. How clueless of me to have not heard anything! Trish
trish – so sorry to hear that! i was hoping they would pull it together. i heard there might not be tables for vendors and figured it could be quite chaotic. we’ll hope they get their act together for next month!!
Hi again Victoria. I realized this am that I was bit negative…many vendors did show up (even LA ones), I just didn’t see anything I didn’t already have! Trish
