hats off to mrs. french!

abc

i love hats, and own many. problem is, i rarely wear them, because i guess sometimes they make me feel a bit self-conscious. not many of my friends wear hats (unless you count the male friends, or girls who wear beanies when it’s chilly here in san francisco), but i want to wear my hats!

mrs. french had a post on bliss yesterday about wearing and choosing the right hat, and it got me thinking, gosh darn it, i should really wear my damn hats — it’s that time of year when the fog rolls in and just ruins any hairdo i’ve got going on anyway, so it’s perfect timing for hats. the hat up top is one of my favorites, found via the alameda flea market and a gift from my friend joni who bought it for me since i was down to my last flea market dollar. mrs. french, i say we wear hats and we wear them proudly!

I don’t know too many girls (especially artistically inclined girls) who don’t go weak in the knees at the sight of a hat in a classic or period-inspired film, and yet, so few attempt it themselves in real life. Wonder why that is? The fact that it would be unique seems enough reason to start wearing them. I say go for it and own it completely!

I don’t have a huge collection, just a flattering few. I almost always wear one to weddings for a little Hepburn flair.

I have a really big head and have to wear men’s xl size hats, so I’m just happy if I can find something that fits and doesn’t look too foolish! A lady at church recommended her hatmaker to me one time, but I’m not ready to take it that seriously.

I can’t live without hats! Summer or winter I got to wear a couple. Could be from my grandmother’s who started as a hat maker back home but I love how hats, scarves and gloves make a woman so much more sexier than low rise jeans or cut off tees. It sounds really old school, but accessories are just too much fun not to play with!

How timely this post is! I normally look terrible in hats (small facial features + ears that stick out just a little too much= bad), but just for fun I tried on a cloche hat at Anthropologie (when no one was looking!) and I actually looked cute! Then I came across a cloche hat online at jcrew yesterday, and I really want it. Now I can’t stop thinking I should just suck it up, be bold, and wear a hat in public.

By all means you should wear your hats!!! If you love them you should wear them. Hats are just so great and it is nice not to look like everyone else. Go for it!!!!!!!!!

I love hats and wear them from fall through to spring (and sometimes in the summer when it’s unnecessary).

My last two hats came from the Alameda Flea… I just can’t bare to buy new ones when I find so many great used ones, never more than $20.
