share your winning resolution.

it’s that time of year again — have you made any new year’s resolutions? feel like sharing them with us? i’d love to hear what’s on your mind, and see if you’ve got a secret something we all might get inspired by to make this new year a more productive, meaningful and happy one.
i’ll send a ‘keep calm & carry on’ print (in the color of your choice) to the resolution that i think might put a nice spark under us the most! simply share in the comments below (be sure & include a way to contact you), before next friday, January 8th, 2010, and i’ll shout out the most inspiring thought, or resolution for the new year.
happy new year everybody! i can’t wait to see y’all next week for a brand new, and much better year! here’s to a fabulous twenty-ten!!!

happiest of holidays.

it’s that time of year, when it comes time for me to take some luxurious time off. to visit with family, kick off my shoes and put up my feet, and my fingers and stay away from the keyboard as much as i can. i know you’re all dashing about and hopefully enjoying the holidays, too, so my hope is you’ll be taking some time away from the computer screen as well, and finding some quality, old-fashioned fun with your friends and family.

i look forward to a new year with you all, and am so thankful for the job you’ve given me each day, to share the things i find inspirational and creative, and to you for sharing your kind comments and wonderful ideas.
it’s been a very hectic time for me these last few months, caring for my father, and i appreciate all your patience and kindness, on those days when maybe i wasn’t as prolific as i would have liked to have been. but, i am hoping some of that is behind me now, and my creative juices will get flowing again. if there’s something you’d like to see more of (or per chance, less of) in 2010, be sure and let me know. i hope you all find some time for your own creative projects and if there’s something you like to share, you’ll send it my way.

how will you all be spending your holidays? do you have a special nostalgic tradition you’d like to share? or is there a particular holiday or gift you’ve given, or received, that stands out in your mind? i’d love to hear about it! happiest of holidays to you all, and i’ll see you back here in the new year!

jessica hische’s Daily Drop Cap.

i love typography, and i recently discovered a great blog from designer jessica hische. jessica is a is a typographer and illustrator working in Brooklyn, New York, and she’s got this great post called the Daily Drop Cap, in which jessica illustrates a decorative letter every day (or at least every work day).

The project will continue for approximately twelve alphabets and are available for non-commercial use as drop caps on your personal blog. Please visit daily drop cap to see the full project. a-b-c, it’s as easy as one-two-three with jessica’s help!

[ this week's flickr faves. ]

this week i thought i’d peruse my own flickr favorites with the wintery holiday in mind. the chill in the air certainly seems to be here, and we all just want to bundle up and be at home. here’s some lovely images I felt evoked that sense of changing seasons, colors and mood. so snuggle up, and peruse some of these flickr photographer’s work. it might just warm your heart.
[ guest post: one blue wren - fan love! ]
hello from the other side of the pacific! ash of one blue wren here, it’s lovely to see you.
so i can’t help but notice there’s a whole lot of talk about winter going on. snow, cuddly blankets, roaring fires, comfort food and of course, a christmas all in white! snow isn’t something i’ve had the pleasure of experiencing, and christmas down under is definitely not white. here in the tropics (brisbane australia) this time of year is when we get the hottest, face melting of days. our holiday time is spent at the beach, in the back yard pool, eating ice cream, and sitting under a fan to escape the heat.
meet my favorite vintage find, a lovely old fan that keeps us cool in summer, ever so quietly, while looking fabulous!

i love the industrial yet elegant feel of these beauties, and they really did make them to last back then. so I’ve had a dig around on etsy, and found some lovely examples. yes, there are many of you that may not be on the look out for a fan while it’s snowing outside, but they do make a beautiful decorative piece, and you’ll thank yourself when summer rolls around.

[ keep in mind that safety wasn't first priority when these were made. homes with children and pets can save little fingers and fluffy tails by using these as decorative pieces only. ]
Hope winter treats you nice!
[ thanks so much to guest blogger ash from one blue wren. to see more of her beautiful photos, visit her flickr stream, too! ]
