favorite vintage find? my old school glass jar that I keep Bailey’s food in on my counter…
Recently purchased some vintage Arsenal FC lampshades on eBay. For the home pub I dream of sometime having. Pic in above link.
So pretty! I love seeing how shabby chic style has evolved in the past 20 years–still retaining its original cozy and welcoming sensibility, but becoming a little more clean and less fussy. just lovely!
as for my favorite vintage find? hard to pick a favorite but I’d have to say that my mad med style lamps are in the top five for sure! http://tinyurl.com/y8p42qx
my fave vintage find is a roll of 1900s seashell scallop wallpaper. i have done so much with it!
Victoria, that is fantastic!
My mum and I have adored Rachel’s work for years.
My favourite find was my bedside table. It has been restored and made into a gorgeous little white piece refitted with a rose glass knob.
I love it so much that I had it shipped from Australia to Canada.
i am always on the search for vintage and antique creamers. i have a small little collection that is ever growing. when i have my own house i plan on displaying them in an antique white china cabinet, along with my vintage plates.
What a great give away! My favorite item is a very small baby grand piano I found at a yard sale in Fresno California for 10 dollars. It measured about 17 inches high and 15 inches long. There was an arm that allowed you to prop up the top of the piano revealing the strings inside. It was shiny black with a gold interior. It sounded so pretty when you you hit the keys. I try not to think about it too much as it was stolen from a storage locker where I was keeping it safe, moving from one apartment to another. It still KILLS me. I have never seen another like it.
My vintage finds are an addiction so I’ll share the latest acquisition: a very small portrait of a Teddy Roosevelt look-alike Frenchman on wood ,finely painted over a collaged-on photo as was done in the early 20th century I was told. It is so cool!
I love Shabby Chic, I love this blog and I love what you are shpwing of Rachel Ashwell’s new boo- – that bedroom with the blue buttonback headboar, oh my!
I saw this book at the bookstore yesterday and I had a great time browsing through it!
My favorite vintage find is an antique radio that belonged to my great grandfather. After my grandparents passed away, many of their belongings came to live in my parents’ attic. I recently discovered the radio and it is a beauty! We had the tubes replaced and it actually works now! While it’s a little fuzzy and the dial is off by a bit, it has been a fun addition to our home. We like to listen to jazz on NPR. :) To see a photo of the radio, check out this post from my blog.

My favorite vintage find is a gorgeous chair that I found at Urban Mining Homewares – the best local vintage shop in Kansas City. The chair is brocade and green pleather, ridiculously comfortable, and was a steal at $34.50.
My favorite vintage find has always been a lady-head wall pocket that my grandmother had hanging in her kitchen ever since I can remember. She gave it to me when she was suffering from dementia and had to go into a convalescent home. It always evokes bittersweet memories of how grandma used to be. http://www.flickr.com/photos/julesschroom/25119179/in/set-598421/
I found a vintage fiestaware teapot at STD in Springfield, MO (an antique warhouse), and I proudly use it to hold my straws in my kitchen! I LOVE it!
We have a gorgeous antique iron bed with great patina and paint chipped in just the right places. I love it as much today as the day I bought it more than 10 years ago!
I love this designer’s books, such great creativity displayed for all to be inspired.
What a great, great giveaway! This would make a perfect gift. My favorite vintage find is a vintage crocodile embossed clutch with gold embellishments. It’s gorgeous and goes with everything!
I have my grandmother’s Oster blender that is from the early 1950’s. It still works wonderfully.
What a great book!
My favorite vintage find is a simple LBD. I no longer weigh myself, I try on my vintage little black dress and make sure it still fits. Otherwise I will not worry about my weight. When I bought it, it fit like a glove…like it was made for me. Probably before I was even born. It’s nothing elaborate, but it makes me happy and stands out as my single best find [and I sure do a lot of vintage shopping!].
My friend and I yard sale together and I found an old quilt that looked interesting and bought it, she secretly wanted it. She later found an antique ice box, I secretly wanted that. A couple of weeks later we confided in one another and traded.
My husband restored it for me and now it works as a side table for my son.
I love this book! I looked through it at the bookstore recently!
My favorite vintage find is a toss up between a simple large glass jar that I have filled with tons of buttons and a feathered hat that I found in my grandmothers closet after she had passed. They both make me smile every time I see them.
im crazy over vintage sign letters and i have way to many in my house :)
My favorite vintage find is a set of deep blue glass wine-glasses with gold embellishments all over them. I bought them because I needed wine glasses for a party, and realized the day of that I did not own any dishes or glasses except for coffee mugs. I still use them all the time today :)
Found 20 years ago: a white canopied four poster bed for $40 hidden in the garage of a pretty junky consignment store – Sunday mornings would often find all three kids peacefully hanging out there, now the grandkids are.
My favorite most recent vintage find was an armload of baggies full of wooden Christmas ornaments which tossed me back into my childhood. I peppered a small white tree with them, tossed on a few small pink glass ornaments, and they were perfect for my daughters’ bedroom. Photos: http://todayslessons.blogspot.com/2009/12/this-years-christmas-find.html
A beautiful old rocker old neighbors were throwing out as they moved. Still rocking babies in that chair!
My family’s best vintage find was in our own basement! My son rediscovered my husband’s grandfather’s old Royal typewriter. He was in the coffee export business in San Francisco in the 30’s but was based in Mexico. He used the typewriter when he came up to SF. A true treasure.
My favorite vintage find is a 1970’s Baby Ben alarm clark with blue rhinestones around the clock face on a cream colored base. I was browsing through the Ventura flea market on a Sunday and was not intending to buy anything. But the clock perfectly matches the blue glass lamp in my guest bedroom. My morning routine now includes winding the clock each day and reminds me of the times before digital.
My favorite vintage find was a chandelier from craigslist which I drove 40 miles each way to buy. But it was worth it. It was inexpensive but just what I needed. It now hangs in my bedroom where I can look at it every night.
I recently found two big clay pots in my garage. I thought they were just plant pots, but it turns out these great, big, beautiful, rustic pots were used by my great grandmother to season olives at Xmas time. I love vintage treasures that tell a story :-)
My best find was a pretty piece of wood carving that hangs over my bed!
Beautiful book! Butter dishes. I love them and can’t live without them.
Definitely a ceramic, all black, non-tacky deer lamp that was $60, talked down to $30 – my FIRST ever successful haggle!
My best find was a big bag filled with vintage laces and linen!
A pair of Quartite Creative lamps from 1961. $25 and very . . . tactile!
My mom just gave me a ceramic christmas tree that was my great uncles. It’s festive and family, what more could a girl ask for? Happy Holiday’s!
My favourite find so far is an old white medicine chest with a flaky chippy red swiss cross on it. Found in on side of the road!
an old grey tweed suitcase with a bright red handle and matching red piping. I bought it 7 years ago and it’s still my prime suitcase. It reminds me of Margot in Royal Tennenbaums. But for efficientsy sake, I think I’ll get my husband to put wheels on it!
Vintage children’s school chair in aqua during our move from CA to MO. I held it on my lap b/c our car was packed so tightly.
There have been many great vintage finds over the years. But I have to say my favorite is the chandelier hanging above my bed. Found it at the Alameda Flea Market (aka antiques by the bay). Here’s an iPhone polaroid of the chandelier. I now have little gold birds on it for Christmas.

I have so many fave finds. Sometimes the best things come from the trash. When I pull something off the curb, I think how happy the piece must be, avoiding the landfill and all. :) My latest find was an antique maple dresser. You can see it here. http://lindsaybrackeen.blogspot.com/2009/10/before-after.html
A vintage BINGO game set is my current favorite. What fun to turn off the TV, etc and play bingo. My 6 year old LOVES IT too! Especially fun if you play for little candy prizes.

this book looks gorgeous! my best vintage find was a little table I found on craigslist for $10, I painted it shabby style and it looks great! I sit my glass on it while watching tele every night :)
I love the glimpses into that new book!
My favorite vintage find is the antique French armoire I bought with my mom and dad when I was in high school. It is big and beautiful and it reminds me of antique shopping with my parents, who now cannot do things like that. I’ve had it in every place I’ve lived, and can’t wait to continue to age with it for the next many years!
My favorite find is actually something my husband purchased on e-bay, a lovely gold amethyst victorian ring with a flower pearl on it with a gold leaf and it is inscribed “to wife”. It came with a vintage valentine. It’s my birthstone and it is just so “romantic” I love it. I also love Rachel Ashwell, I have all her other books and I loved her show on style network.
well this is a little tricky as i love all my ‘forsaken’ little finds, but recently i picked up a chair at Freemont sunday fleamarket that made my heart skip a beat… when the guy said $25 it beat even faster!
i took her home to mossy shed, cleaned her up and now she’s feeling pretty peachy… you can take a looky here

I think all my most treasured possessions are vintage things :o)
I love my Mother’s old black Angora sweater jacket with silk lining. It is like wearing a big comfy blanket (but much hotter than a snuggie).
My favorite vintage finds are these 2 1916/1917 padlocks from a German flea market. Were they used to lock prison cells during WWI? I wonder….
Would love to have this book :-)!!!

My favorite vintage find is defenitely my leather Geoffrey Harcourt chair. Although it’s crackle and the leather is a little torn it still is a beauty!
My favorite is my 1960’s teal Singer sewing machine. I bought it for 8 dollars at a goodwill in 2003, and after two 40$ tune ups every other year or so, it is still going strong!
My fave vintage finds are industrial letters (from signs and buildings), milk glassware and small delicate teacups. I don’t always go vintage shopping so these finds are few and far between but having ebay helps sometimes.

I stumbled upon your blog via your 100 words on Blaine Hogan…we went to grad school together. I have loved adding you to my Google Reader.
So my favorite vintage find was recently purchased at a garage sale in Seattle. There was a neighborhood garage sale where everyone, and I mean everyone, was participating in some way. As my friend and I stepped out to go walking around Greenlake, we passed her neighbors as they were feverishly trying to get all of their precious items out into the yard. Hours later when we came back, my eye caught this old, hard back suitcase. As I looked at it, I thought “I bet they’re asking a lot for this.” Three dollars later it was mine. The woman that sold it to me told me that it was her mother’s graduation present when she finished college in Connecticut, Her mother’s mother worked long hours in a sewing shop to buy the American Tourister set as a present for her daughter, who later took it around the world with her husband. It now rests on my floor as a table for the mini-stereo my brother gave me for Christmas years ago. Antiques with stories make a purchase so rich.
Thanks for reading!
Would sooooo love to have this book…<3
Oh! And, my favorite vintage find would be a Scottish highlands wool sweater from the early eighties (I guess that’s vintage!) in soft greys and whites to be worn on the coldest midwestern days and nights…
When my husband was single and living with “a bunch of Stanford hippies” in Portola Valley, one of his handy roommates turned an old wooden shipping crate into a large dining room table. This is our dining room table today – we were the lucky ones to inherit it – it’s funky, has history, and a real treasure.
My favorite vintage find is an old dresser from around the turn of the century. It is dark wood and has huge wooden nobs. I have used it for several zears as a dresser, but my husband and I are hoping to get pregnant soon, and want to use it as a changing table!

So hard to choose; but I’m going to say the best vintage find I’ve ever made was right in my grandmother’s basement. Years ago, when I moved into my very first apartment, she let me go “shopping” amongst her treasures and, in addition to some other things, gave me the dresser from her and my grandfather’s wedding bedroom set. Its’ a gorgeous art deco piece with chunky bakelite knobs and marbled wood inlays.
I recently picked up an American of Martinsville dresser circa 1950 on Craigslist for $40! It is in perfect condition and is the perfect compromise between my style and my husband’s.
I just found your blog and am already in love. I’ve been in love with Rachel’s books and show for years. I still don’t have a copy of this book, but it’s another great one!

Oh where do I start…. this summer I found a bag of amazing old and somewhat new buttons. I’ve found so many ways to use them and most of all I just love buttons in a ball jar.
Jewelry is always a good find, but my favorite has been an old wooden vintage school desk.
My favorite find was a huge jar of buttons after my Mother passed w/ a note inside that said “Some of these are very old, don’t throw them away-use them.” I was so moved, Mom had been sick a long time. I did what she said, and have given many gifts to family from me and “Mom”.

My favorite vintage find was just recently found in my own home as I unpacked from moved West back East. My grandfathers 1940’s Coast Guard WWII id bracelet. My favorite vintage find is an old St Nicholas chocolate mold that I found in Amsterdam years ago. Right now it’s part of my dining room table Christmas centerpiece. I take it out every Christmas and memories of Amsterdam come flooding out.

Definitely one of my favorite vintage finds is a wooden library card catalog — and it was a steal at only $15!
My favorite find . . . a small iron and glass table with two comfy swivel chairs that now grace my kitchen breakfast area. The 50’s blue will be the inspiration for my kitchen makeover (which is desperately needed due to its own unfortunate vintage decor choices of the 70’s!).
a milk glass and pitcher set in my mother’s china cabinet . . . still waiting for those to be handed down!
I went to an auction a couple years ago. There was this really cute old statue of a couple. I ended up buying it for .25 cents. When I got home, I went online and did some research on it. Turns out it is worth over $500. Best investment!!! Statue is still on my fireplace.

I have SO many favorite vintage finds! So many, in fact, that I have to sell many of them on Etsy! My top-of-the-head favorite would probably be… a Marimekko shift dress from the 1960’s. Gorgeous and timeless! A great combo.
Framed vintage handkerchiefs! So delicate and pretty.
Love the book! My favorite vintage finds have been books, especially children’s books.
i want to read that book! thanks to you and rachel for the great give-away opportunity. :)
my favorite vintage item (excepting things given to me by family members) is a chippy and still-rather-musty-smelling cabinet that hung outside the boat/cabin rental office at a lake. decades and decades old, this cabinet once held guests’ messages behind glass where they would be safe from moisture, wind and bugs. the cabinet was stencilled for visitors to contact so-and-so for boat and cabin rentals and nicely near the top it reads “visit lake ericson”.
what makes this find so special to me – besides my love of water and of chippy (if not still-rather-musty-smelling) old things – is that ericson is my last name, i found the cabinet eight and a half years ago on an outing with my beloved mother and sister and that my also-beloved maternal grandparents stayed at that lake (choosing it because my grandmother’s maiden name was erickson) :)
thanks again.

I love old wooden fruit boxes with the labels still on the sides. I have 3 of them filled with cookbooks. Which reminds me of another collection, old cookbooks with the wonderful hand drawings of what the food should look like, as well as the women cooking them. Reminds me how lucky I am not to have to wear heels and a dress in the kitchen.
my vintage fine a 1800’s table that was in bad shape when we found it.it came out beautifully after restoration

My most favorite treasure right now is a yellow & pink floral tole chandelier that hangs in my sunny breakfast nook.

My favorite find was a stained glass window that I got at the Brimfield Antique Fair. It has a white painted frame that is peeling and a pretty design of a tulip with a heart. I have it hanging on my screen porch.
I would love to win this book!
