help haiti.

okay, so i know we’re all feeling the sorrowful devastation in haiti, and seeing suffering humanity right before our eyes. so, there are lots of ways to jump right in and contribute to the relief efforts, including donating to doctors without borders, or to donating to any one of these charitable organizations.

1e

there are also several artists, blogs and crafters holding fundraisers and donating portions of their sales to these efforts. if you’d like to help in that way, here’s just a few of blogs, and shops i’ve seen to date as i post this, including my own etsy shop, contributing to this effort. there’s also a more complete list of donors, here on etsy’s handmade for haiti. if you know of others donating, please add them in the comments section below. thank you, and please spread the word, and consider donating what you can. thanks so much for all you do.

this is so awesome! i know you feel. we felt so compelled to do something too. we planned a new years party on january 20th. for the party we are holding a tabletop design challenge within the events and wedding pros. we felt that we should a table too. instead of us entering the table we have conceptually created a design to help raise money to send water to haiti. 100% of the money donated will go straight to charity:water. they need water now and we have to get it to them. so the concept is based off of.. you guessed it water. we hope that the design will move and inspire our guest to give.

Not design related, but my son’s elementary school is planning a “dress down day”. The children pay $1 not to wear their school uniform for a day. All proceeds will be donated to the Haitian Relief Fund @ The American Red Cross. I think it’s a wonderful way to get young children involved.

Oh my. Every time I see these pleas for donating to The American Red Cross my heart sinks. They were exposed a long time ago for their corruption( http://www.counterpunch.org/allen10202005.html ).
Your compassionate readers would be well informed by the article in the link that follows, and there are some ethical charities listed at the bottom of it:
    http://www.zmag.org/znet/viewArticle/23640
Please, all of you kind bloggers, consider rescinding your public support of the Red Cross and replacing it with the charities from the aforementioned article. The writer, Paul Street, is as ethical as they come and highly regarded in humanitarian circles. Forgive my arrogance, but this is not a time for being delicate.
