guest post: rustic inspiration from home life.

Hello everyone! It’s Stephanie Caldwell from Home Life. I’m gearing up to do an interior design overhaul in my home soon, so I’ve been spending a lot of time gathering ideas and photos for my design inspirations. I wanted to share a little bit of what’s inspiring me with you guys today.

Lately I’ve been drawn to design elements that are shabby chic, rustic, farmhouse, scientific, nature inspired & collection based.  I’ve been so inspired by the homes and design styles of Alice Saunders, Jeska Hearne, Alyson Graves and Emerson.

I love the look of weathered stone, wood and bone paired with lace, floral patterns and pastels. I like filling my shelves, windowsills and tabletops with lots of bric-a-brac and nature bits. I’m inspired by animals, bugs, plants, glass beakers, scientific displays, apothecary, worn floorboards, metal tools, thread and buttons, chandeliers, lace and velvet, old wallpaper, Celtic and Native American designs, old books, antlers, claw foot tubs and vintage military items. I expect my home décor to reflect not only who I am but who my family is; so my style has been heavily influenced by my husband (who loves all things military, outdoors/woodsman and handcrafted) and my daughter (who loves all things pink, frilly, glittery and floral).   These bloggers have all helped me to take this hodge-podge of inspiration and create an aesthetic for my home that embodies my whole family’s styles.

I hope these creative collections inspire you. And thanks again for the invite Victoria! Feel free to come visit me on my blog, home life and see what I’m up to — Stephanie Caldwell.

This is my style exactly. I love the juxtaposition of raw and weathered with delicate and sweet. I’m not familiar with Alice Saunders so I can’t wait to explore her site (and your’s too!) Thank you for the inspirational post!

I just love your style! I’ve taken recent risks myself by pairing a vintage crystal chandelier with my otherwise more rustic, weathered look.

Love your style. Two years ago we changed to “modern” and I do love it, but my old fav’ vintage and shabby chic items are slowly working their way back in. I like the mixture and plan on incorporating more of it. You’ve given me some nice ideas…….

So much beautiful inspiration! I have Alyson’s Imagination print and it’s one of my favorite things to look at in my room. And I think I need to start sewing some banners to hang around my apartment.
