good reads: garden house.

i’ve had this book, like forever, but it’s a good one. sometimes when you move you find all kinds of treasures and this was one i dug up, a great book called garden house, bringing the outdoors in, by bonnie trust dahan. and although it may be out of print, you can find used copies of it on amazon for as low as 38¢ (copyright 1999, folks!). i kid you not!

i’m not as into the rustic, shabby look as i once was, but there’s something nice and peaceful about the look presented in garden house, mixing vintage containers and furnishings with plants and greenery, that comes kind of naturally, and is quite organic feeling to me. i like it. i plan to use some of these ideas in my backyard, and already have in the little sunroom with my new herb garden. here’s a look at garden house. go on, hunt down a copy of your own!

oh, yes, how i’d love an old porch swing like this one in the backyard, with some cozy blankets thrown over it.

i quite like the idea of bringing the lovely, green outdoors, in.

I love these. I’ve always got something living from the outdoors stuffed into the thousand vases I have around the house.
Is that Polaroid in your header yours? I just picked up a Land 100 at an antique store last week, and I love it so much I want to sleep with it under my pillow. It didn’t come with a manual, so I’m having a hell of a time with it. My husband almost broke it when he thought he “found” the way to get the lens to come out. I informed him he was just changing the shutter speed and jarring it open with force.

Oh! I’ve had this awesome book since the old days, too! Each time I do a “book clear out” this one makes the cut! I’m much more modern in my approach these days, as well, but there are too many warm images in this book to give it up!

Oh! I snapped one up. Thanks for sharing! I’m sure to get many ideas not only for decorating, but for photography and styling from it! And what a good deal too.
