hello again friends, it’s nicolle here from sacred lotus photography. it’s almost berry season here in oregon and I have to admit it’s one of my favorite times of the year! from june through september, oregon’s willamette valley blushes with berries. red raspberries, black raspberries, marionberries, evergreen blackberries, boysenberries, blueberries, and loganberries! fertile, well drained soil, favorably timed spring rains, and summers that are warm in daytime and cold at night, produce berries that are sweet, plump, and happy.

each year my family and i go to a few local farms and pick buckets full of plump ripe berries. i do a lot of baking with them. i also like to freeze them and use them for smoothies! last year i wanted to make homemade organic strawberry jam but never got around to it. this year i’m gonna make it happen!
do any of you have a favorite berry recipe you would like to share? if so please leave it in the comments, i would love to try some new recipes!!
happy tuesday!

Beautiful photographs. I love berry season too- in Maine when I was a child I used to pick blueberries by the bucket and my grandmother did the most wonderful things with them.
oh my God, what a yummy post!!! I might have a heart attack right now, these pictures are delicious!!! xo
Berries are by far my favorite fruits (but don’t even ask me to choose a favorite between them!). I love chopping up a mix of them and having them with yogurt for a quick healthy breakfast.
One of my favorite Italian deserts is Strawberries marinated in wine. It is so simple to make – sliced strawberries, sugar to taste, and wine on top (white or red, both work well). Marinate for a few hours and serve with the now-strawberry-flavored wine drizzled over top! You’ll need about 1 1/2 cups of wine to 3 cups of strawberries
YUMMY post! what’s not to like about a berry!?
oh krista those wine soaked strawberries sound amazing! thanks for sharing :)
I can’t wait until the berries are ripe here (NW Washington)! I’m pretty much a purist… not so many recipes for me… I just add berries in, on top of, underneath EVERYTHING when they are in season :)
I worked five summers selling strawberries so I can’t eat them anymore (enough’s enough) but those blueberries… I could pick them right out of the photo :)
Oh, I really love this blog post! the pictures are just beautiful and look like summer… :)
Ah! So much delicious goodness in all of these lovely photos.
If you want to make jam you must buy Christine Ferber’s Mes Coniftures. Absolutely inspired recipes! My favorite way to use fresh berries is in to make a simple graham cracker tart shell, fill it with a mix of whipped cream, mascarpone cream, and blackberry honey, and top with berries. You can add a pinch of cardamom to the filling, too.
these are wonderful. and oh boy, I am seriously looking forward to enjoying the san francisco berry season :)
amazing post. OH how i love berries. i’ve eaten them until i’ve felt sick way too many times for my own good. those instances are always equal parts awesome and awful: i’m so happy my belly is chock full of berries… & then…. not so much. haha.
