sunset special.
i was eating a yummy lunch a few weeks ago at outerlands (with artist leah giberson while she was in town for her show at rare device) and we popped in next door, to the General Store in the outer sunset for a bit of browsing. i love the vintage vibe of this sorta surfer-chic shop, well-curated with loads of unique home accessories, objects d’art, books, jewelry, clothing and a load of really cool succulents.
there’s even a wee greenhouse designed by visual artist jesse schlesinger out back, that owners serena mitnik-miller and mason st. peter appear to be constantly upgrading. the general store is one of those shops you just want to support and frequent often, a very ‘mom & pop’ local feel, and tons of great gift ideas, and complete with the sweet resident dog, macy. check out their news section for upcoming shows and events.

Stores just don’t get any awesome-er than that (both in how they’re designed & the sort of products filling them)… I can’t wait to visit someday.
Love seeing your post on Outerlands and General Store! I live right down the street at 48th and I hit up Outerlands often. Nothing beats running up the block to buy a loaf of their AMAZING bread for only $5 then roasting some garlic at home to go with it. General Store just adds to the little trip up the road… my roommate and I get excited for payday, when we each go buy a new succulent.

that is really a great shop. I have always wanted to try outerlands too but some how go somewhere else. next time i am out there i will give it a try. also tatttoo tuesday is the most AMAZING tattoo shop. they have a cute little seal in a sweater in their window! it is my favorite place. sam, hannah & jessie are amazing artists! i have gotten almost all mine ink there <3 here is the newest: http://thecitybirdsnest.blogspot.com/2010/07/so-fresh.html#comments

My sisters and I had lunch at the Outerlands on Saturday for my birthday (SCRUMPTIOUS) and stopped by the General Store afterwards. It is indeed a wonderful shop. What a fantastic addition to this sleepy section of the city! I didn’t know there was a greenhouse out back. Will have to check it out next time I’m there.
Sooooo glad you wrote about this great shop, Victoria! I went there right after it opened, and it looks as if they’ve grown a whole bunch, plus added the greenhouse. And Outerlands has been on my list of places to go for months. Thanks for the reminders! Great pix, inspiring as always.

I love the way they did their shelving and display units! The unfinished, simple look works great with their product selection. What a lovely shop!
