branching out.

wild goose chase.

i adore bringing a little bit of the outside inside. adding a touch of nature goes a long way to warm up a room and make it that much more inviting, don’t ya think? adding a few large branches to a vase adds texture and shape, whether they be stark naked branches (which you can pretty much find for free!), or covered in flora and fauna, they just look real darn pretty. adding a wee bird’s nest, or some nature-inspired accessories is a lovely way to bring the outdoors inside, as well. nothing like a little nesting to keep things cozy. here’s a look at of what i speak.

  1. I have been on the hunt lately, sweeping the beaches for driftwood, trying to figure just what I may be doing with them in the end.

In Cambria, Ca, I found an artist who has a shop called Deer Run. She takes driftwood and quartz crystals and some abalone shells and creates some simple and stunning wall sculptures.

Then just last night on etsy, I found a new shop of Joan Rickard making twig dream catchers.

Cheers!..to the wild wonders of a simple twig

That little bit of outdoors inside makes such a difference. When I was little, I would dream about having a house with one wall missing so I could easily step outdoors. While that may not be so practical, bringing the outdoors in definitely is. Those bird nest lights have particularly caught my eye.

  3. That chandelier is heavenly! Using branched for decorating is a great idea, timelessly chic!

Thank you for posting this collection! I’m in the midst of gathering as much decorating inspiration as possible, and I *love* the indoor nature theme you have here.

Little bits of nature around the house are my favorite accessories. I have vases full of pine cones we’ve gathered on camping trips, seashells from the ocean, and interesting branches and rocks we’ve found along the way.
My favorite time of year to bring the outdoors in, is in the Spring. In Oklahoma, the entire state is littered in Bradford Pears, which bloom all at once and look like snow. I gather the branches in early Spring, fill vases around the house with them, and let them bloom indoors. They always last for over a month, as long as you keep the water clean.
    I love this post!

My goodness but these are gorgeous! Nothing revives us like nature (well, because it’s natural :)). I’m already getting inspiration for what to do in my new flat.

Oh, gosh, my apartment is FULL of stuff like this. I’m from SE Alaska and spent a whole lot of time outside before I moved to Portland. We call our decor theme “woodland/museum chic.”

Sooo pretty! Thanks for sharing with all of us these little bits of beauty.

  11. Flavia says:

Lovely! I am always bringing bits and pieces from my walks at the beach or park. And now I have a little helper in my daughter (she obviously inherited the gene!) :-) I love all these ideas for displaying our nature finds!

Such lovely pictures — so white and serene…

Hehe. I used to collect so much dead stuff as a kid at the Jersey Shore. My parents thought it was strange. Finally, a little revenge.

  14. victoria says:

ryan – i’m glad you think of it as revenge! lol. :)

  15. Absolutely Lovely! How inspiring and great for the environment! Rather than spending money on something that uses energy and pollutes the earth, this idea shows us that we can really source things that already exist in our environment.

Love. Love. Love. This is how I live, though not with quite as much style. (I’m always trying!) The outdoors in is what I grew up with, and what I still love. Thank you for this gorgeous blog!
