I relive the day my daughter was born.
I always drift off to sleep with a good book. Right now reading is my favorite all of the time ritual =)
My husband and I each list 3 good things that happened that day.
i am on a knitting streak. when i get home late from work i change into my pajamas, hop into my warm bed, and start knitting until i drift off to sleep. lately, i’ve been waking up in the middle of the night obsessively thinking, knit, purl, knit, purl, etc.
The days with the Polar night going on, it’s difficult to get asleep. But I drift along, usually by listening to boyfriend whos’ already asleep.
I love listening to The Moth podcasts before I go to bed. Hearing other people’s stories reminds me of my grandmother telling me stories when I was younger.
I drift off to sleep with my dogs at my feet (off the bed of course) and my boyfriend snoring at my side, giving thanks that we are all healthy and happy.
A good book before bed is all I need!
My nightime ritual is making sure I have a glass of water by my bedside- thanks for hosting- it’s beautiful.

I cannot go to bed without reading at least a couple of pages of my latest book on my nightstand. Even if I’m so exhausted, I just have to do it!
I spend about five minutes drawing and jotting down ideas in my sketchbook and then settle in with a good read.
I cuddle and talk with my other half till one of us drifts off… :D he Makes me so happy!
In the winter a nice warm bath and in the summer a cool breeze and a spritz of lavender water on my pillow.
I love to read a good book to make my eyes tired and, while its getting cold outside, to make me comfortable I put a hot-water bag in my bed
I talk to my husband before I drift off to sleep. :)
Currently, War and Peace! Thanks….
A good read…and a sweet kiss from my husband!
I call my (long-distance) fiance and we re-cap our day, then say goodnight!
I like to read right before I fall asleep!
I read but more often lately I listen to free podcasts (varied of music, news, comedy)I download & transfer to an iPod given to me by friends. I use a small speaker attached & it really helps w/insomnia. If I don’t fall asleep, then at least I have some company.
I love this bedding pattern…saw it somewhere recently & thought it so pretty.
I loooove this stuff! Block printing is the prettiest. Every night, I listen to a “pretty sleepy” playlist on my iPod…it’s the same playlist I’ve been listening to for years, but I never feel like I’m tired of the songs because I’m sleeping through most of them!
Reading the New Yorker while sipping a cup of Sleepytime tea.
I love drinking a nice cup of hot tea and a good calm record playing.
I usually fall asleep watching a movie with my husband.
i read to my children.
My nighttime ritual is like clockwork: the hour before “lights out” is split evenly between a brisk walk with my enormous yellow Lab, Mako – we go no matter the weather! – and time on my yoga mat.
love sipping on a nice cup of warm milk and i heat up my lavender filled eye pillow….total relaxation after the toddler is finally in bed :)
i snuggle with my man and my puppy! who could ask for more?
My husband got me this misting essential oil diffuser that rests on my nightstand. I like to put some drops of Lavender in it before I cozy up to a good book. The lavender really helps me de-stress and it smells SO good!
I thumb through cookbooks before I fall asleep. I love looking at the gorgeous photos and (day)dreaming about how it would taste, who I would share it with, what the atmosphere would be.
A quick peak on my sleeping 7 year old and little kiss.
A check-in with little snoring Henry and a flip through the pile of magazines beside my bed although I try and not read any design mags because they get me thinking too much and then I can’t sleep!
reading before bed. even if its only half a page, i HAVE to do my ritual!
I fall asleep with the covers over my head and the blankets all tucked in tight around me like a burrito. I usually also have 3 extra blankets and my space heater on so I will be sure not to get cold!
A cup of sleepytime tea and a good book.
Mine is tucking my dogs into their beds. Seriously…they wait for it!
These are really gorgeous!! I read until I fall asleep.
Reading a novel while snuggled up in a childhood quilt. Thank you for the delightful giveaway!
My husband reads to me as I fall asleep. I guess I never outgrew the enjoyment of being read to.
I always do a little reading before going to sleep :)
i love getting tucked in. maybe a little silly but i always get my bf to tuck me in at night, i fall right to sleep. when he’s not around, i tuck myself in!
Peppermint tea and Sudoku, every night!
dear attiser, your bedding is BEAUTIFUL! my husband and i have just moved into a very very old house. the plaster ceiling above our bed is cracked and crazed. i love picking out little creatures and figures from all the crazy decay above.
On cold nights like these, I fill my hot water bottle and place it under the covers before going to bed. That way, when I do tuck in my bed is nice and toasty warm! Usually the cats have discovered it by then and are curled around it and we all cuddle up, the sound of purring is the last thing I hear before drifting off.
i play a few games of ‘scramble’ (like boggle) on my iPod — word games before bed?! nothing like them to ensure i am asleep within minutes.
Love the purple. Ah so beautiful.
after checking on the little ones — i dream about all of the projects i would love to be able to get to the following day! :) Thanks for the opportunity!
i recall three things i’m thankful for, and it usually includes warm kitties, the ability to be crafty for a living, and my beautiful family.
I love to read in bed. Though it usually puts me right to sleep… it takes me a while to get through a book ;)
I get in bed, wait for kitty to get comfy in the hollow of my tummy, and drift away…
I actually drift off to sleep with the scent of lavender that I put in a bowl if water by my bedside, it is very soothing.
Tis the season to sleep in with my kitty. Ah…
Snuggling up with my husband, our cat, and a good read or Seinfeld rerun!
found your blog via pinterest – am loving it! i usually have a cup of tea while i watch the world from my window and then curl up in bed with my book du jour.
My boyfriend conks out immediately; it’s a gift. I, however, must read or do crossword puzzles or something to make my eyes tired and quiet my busy brain:)
Favorite ritual is singing to my daughter. We’ve sung to her every night since she was a baby. She’s nine now and still loves it. It’s not bedtime without the bedtime song. : )
Soothing my skin nightly with good smelling lotion and snuggling the blankets up to my chin- after that I’m usually fast asleep in 5 minutes or less.
i’m guaranteed a good night of sleep when i drift off nestled in my future husband’s nook (that perfect spot between the breast bone and armpit).
booking reading and a cup of green tea put me right to sleep
I love to read, but most of my day is so jam packed that I never get the chance. That’s why I make sure to curl up with a good book right before I go to bed. It’s the perfect way to relax.
My favorite bedtime ritual includes having a hot bath with lots of aromatherapy salts, putting on a fresh pair of cotton pajamas, making a cup of chamomile tea and reading a few pages of a book.
I have to cuddle up with two pillows. One at my back and one under my head. Then I snuggle deep into my duvet and think about how my day went. :)
I like to enjoy tea in bed with my hunny, read or watch a movie.
My husband and I have started a nightly ritual “Top 5″. Before falling asleep, we tell each other our top 5 favorite things that happened that day. On a really good day we stretch it to top 10! Such a nice way to fall asleep, thinking of positive things.
herbal tea and a book before bed is my favorite.
I nurse my baby and read if I can stay awake after.
Reading…fiction only or my mind will keep spinning.
I make sure to kiss everyone in our bed ~ the pug’s sweet little wrinkled face, my crumb’s cherub cheek, and my beloved’s perfect lips. All these kisses seem to be the perfect ending of every day.
aww…this is so much awesomeness ! We like to wait until our cat comes around, and he usually does at bedtime. Then the three of us hop on bed (Nick, I and our cat Whitey). Then we chat and cuddle and pat Whitey until we fall sleep. zzzzzzzzz
Imagine a shaft of white light beaming down into the top of your head and feel the cosmic energy flow into you and down through your arms – the palms of your hands tingle and when you place them on your chest you feel a warm sensation and a sense of peace … drift off to sleep
Before my daughter was born I miscarried. My bed was where I would cry myself to sleep wondering why and if I would ever be able to have a child. And, now that I am blessed with her, my bed is where I listen to her breathing and it rocks me to a slumber with the comfort that all is right with the world.
I think about all the lovely things in life to look forward to!
My favorite nightly ritual depends on if my husband is in town or not ;) but I do love a glass of red wine and a hot shower.
a glass of red wine and a little yoga
thanks for the chance to win such beautiful linens!
Take a shower and then fall asleep in just washed/dried bedding.
My night time ritual is a bath and a book :) Thanks for the chance to win!
low light, freshly washed face and a couple of pages of my latest book and i am off to the land of nod. cheers!
Most nights I’m so tired I FALL asleep, hard…no drifting here. Lately, though, I’ve been enjoying watching all the episodes of the BBC series “Victorian Farm” that I found posted on Youtube. My husband and I watch a few episodes together at bedtime.
Happy Thanksgiving, Victoria!
-Heidi in Folk City
honestly, i’m middle-aged so right now, it’s a nice tall glass of water, an ambien, and my new pillow from ikea.
1) a warm bubble bath to calm myself from the long day
2) norah jones is always a must-listen before bed.
3) glass of red wine or a cup of warm sleepy tea (depending on my mood).
4) crawl into bed
I have difficulty falling to sleep so I recently began listening to white noise. It is relaxing and helps me drift off
My all time favorite bed time ritual is reading! Can’t sleep without doing it!
Open the window, make a shower, dring honey & cinnamon milk, close the window, crawl into bed, cuddle with cat and read something.
Listening to audiobooks on my ipod
I read nearly every night until I drift off.
I dawn my pink earplugs…turning off the noises of the day.
I listen to Gillian Welch, my favorite bed time music, while laying in bed and sometimes drawing or writing.
Sleepy time tea and a good book, currently reading Madame Bovary, every night. Oh and my sound machine is a God sent!
I say goodnight to everyone, jot down all the things going around and around in my head so they don’t keep me awake, put out what to wear the next morning, put on some lip balm so I don’t have chapped lips in the morning, and get into bed. When I follow that routine I sleep much better :)
I lurve indian wood block printing! These are gorgeous. My night time ritual is to set myself up for the next day – lunches, clothes, work material, accessories – then i have nothing to worry about as i drift off to dreamland!
I straighten up the sheets and the cats’ bedding and flip my pillow over, then slather on some foot creme and put on a pair of cozy socks and hop into bed!
When my head finally hits the pillow, I’m usually out within minutes, if not seconds, so I like to make sure I say all my prayers before I nod off.
I tuck myself under my duvet…one or two design magazine beside me…and imagine how my dreamhouse is going to be. Never fails to leave me in a state of well-being…
~Leah
usually a good book helps me drift off to sleep
A good tea and a fluffy blanket is all I need for a good night’s sleep.
My days end with some jazz music turned down really low… and a cat cuddled up behind my knees… if I am really lucky perhaps a kitty tummy rub and then purring and jazz mix sweetly… and off I drift to sleep. Bliss.
I love to read a couple chapters of James Herriot before I go to sleep. He’s the author of ‘All Things Wise and Wonderful’ and the other books in that series about being a country vet in England in the ’40s. The stories are just so lovely and sweet, they almost always help me to forget my worries and drift off.
Sip mint tea, cooled to just the right temperature.
No matter how hectic the day has been, I always take time for a bubble bath before bed. A good book and a glass of wine only add to the experience!
before i go to bed i, turn the heat down, turn up the heating blanket, check the cats outside, kiss my girls and turn on gilmore girls to fall asleep to.
I have to read… always.
I untuck the flat sheet that my boyfriend tucks under the mattress.
the dog and i head outside for one last potty stop (for him!), then he eats his dental bite treat while i brush my teeth and then i do a crossword puzzle until i’m sleepy.
I read for a little bit & then, after the lights have been turned off, flip my pillow over to sleep on the cool side.
In my dreams I:
Wash my face, take off my make up, take a hot bath, sip some tea, do some relaxing yoga then curl up with a good book next to my husband.
In reality I:
Fall asleep watching Dateline. I always manage to get the words “good night, I love you out”, but that’s about it. What can I say, my kids wear me out!
i always have to read before i fall asleep — to the point where i often fall asleep with the lights on and a book splayed open on the sheets beside me.
such lovely, lovely bedding!
My 4 little boys each read me a story…and I drift off to sleep…it never fails!
M
I fall asleep with my Kindle every night. I love being able to download a new book without getting out of bed!
I always unwind by writing in my journal, or doing some reading. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it’s always pleasant.
A warm shower and a book. :)
I actually fall asleep while holding my 9 mos. old almost every night. Just her calm breathing makes me sleepy.
Great blog!! Love your aesthetic!!
I love to imagine myself floating in my canoe on a dark, quiet lake, listening to the loons cry, lapping water, and a starry, starry sky. Wrap me up in eiderdown and float away!
After I do all the boring nighttime rituals, I snuggle into bed and think of three things that make me excited for tomorrow.
I think of three things that I’m excited for the next day. I’ve only had a few days where I’ve struggled to come up with all 3.
I turn down the bed, put on my nightie, rub my hands, elbows and knees with lotion, pour a small glass of red wine and crawl into bed with my husband. We talk about what we got done that day and make plans for the next day. Sometimes he rubs my feet. ( I love that)
curled up with my pillow, snug as a bug in a rug.
usually, though, i fall asleep with my son after reading him his bedtime stories
write/review tomorrow’s to-do list!
I fall asleep either reading and munching ice, or playing solitaire on my iphone until I doze.
I have a hard time drifting asleep. Usually I review the day with all the thing I didn’t get done. So I started a “5 things” journal. Every night, I take up one page with “5 things”…there is no wrong way to do this, and often they are always different. But for example, the five things could be: “5 things I saw beauty in”, “5 things I will work on”, “5 things that made me laugh”. It helps my mind be more positive and by concentrating it helps knock me out :). Plus it’s a nice thing to look back on, a short and concise journal of the best events from the day.
If you add this with sweet music, fluffy blankets and a candle, it compounds the relaxation :).
Oooh, I love bed time rituals! – particularly if the boyfriend is out for the night and I can slip into single girl mode. This is how it goes (in steps):
1. Hot bath with lavender and geranium oils from Neal’s Yard where I can relax and destress thinking through and letting go of the day.
2. Slip into warm, freshly laundered and ironed pyjamas.
3. Make a cup of (light) hot chocolate, hot water bottle and glass of water.
4. Go to crisp, ironed, freshly laundered bed in clean and tidy bedroom, call the cat.
5. Curl up with good read.
By the time I’ve finished the hot choc, I’m dozing off to the purring of the cat at my feet.
This is even better when boyfriend comes in late and curls up next to me.
Bliss!
When I have trouble falling asleep I like to think of all the plants in my garden. My mind wanders around the outside of house naming each one and imagining I am tucking them in for the night. I especially like to do this in the winter when the are covered in blankets of snow. It is so hopeful to think of them down in the ground just waiting for spring!
A little lavendar hand cream on my hands and some Smyth’s Minted Rose lip balm on my lips, and I’m ready to drift off to sleep…
My favorite bedtime ritual is brushing out my long hair to detangle, applying some argan oil on the ends, and twisting it up into a topknot for the night.
I always catch up on reading blog posts and make sure my phone alarm is set. My boyfriend is usually asleep already right next to me, so I throw my arm over him and fall asleep spooning him. Lucky dude.
i set my sleep timer to 60 minutes and put on that day’s “the view”. i sleep to hot topics (my boyfriend is NOT a fan of this!)
