vintage finds for a modern world: smile for the camera.
i have loved cameras since i was little and my dad would snap us with his kodak Instamatic. those freaky little blue bulbs going off, and simultaneously melting before our red, strobed-out eyes. i studied photography in high school, one that was lucky enough to have its own darkroom and my parents gave me my very first 35mm camera when i graduated. i love everything about photography, from the old school processing (i miss those fumes) to the new digital, instant-gratification age. old and new, photography is my biggest passion. here’s a look at some new gadgets, and some vintage gems.

marilyn and her nikon; the Instant Camera iPhone Decal from photojojo.

andy warhols big shots polaroid collection; and the new Polaroid 300 Instant Camera.

thinking about wearing long black gloves when i shoot, like shutterbug ms. monroe; and the new Lomo Lubitel 166.

my bella 44.

a bold camera display from shannnnnonlowe; and john kratz’s collection.

what a wonderful way to start the day. =)
What a great post on vintage cameras. These days, it sometimes seems like digital has taken the love out of photography. :)

Although I do love the ease of my digital camera, there is nothing more satisfying than developing a roll of black and white on my own.
Is that Dennis Hopper?! Hubba hubba! : )
felicity – indeed, a young dennis hopper. :)
love those photos of miss m! great post v.
Question: I remember a scare that they were going to get rid of polaroid film. Did that not happen??
Love the round up!
Cheers!!
the original film has been discontinued, but fuji makes some, and there is a new movement to recreate the poloroid film – the impossible project:

i studied photography in high school too–i feel so lucky to have discovered the magic of the darkroom as a teenager. still, after all these years, i remember it being so magical. great post!
I was a photography major in both college and grad school and terribly miss the time involved: shooting a roll of film and not knowing until I developed it and made a contact sheet if there was even a good shot on the roll. I miss the chemistry and artistry involved in getting the perfect print in black and white or in color (filters, burning and dodging). The immediacy of photography nowadays is amazing and exciting in its own way, but there was something so nice about the slower process of shooting on film. I miss my darkroom :(
I totally miss developing my own film in high school! The smell of Dektol (spelling?) and the brown splatter stains it would leave on your clothes if you weren’t careful. :o) I would use so much film that my teacher finally had to tell me I had to stop taking so many pictures. But I love it! (And having free film!) So now I am an adult and am just getting back into photography. I love seeing posts like this. :o)
i studied photography in high school too..started with the second hand manual zenith camera.
I love these photos! I used to love old cameras when I was a kid too. The pictures I took were never very good though, and always looked better when I was just peering (very professionally, I thought) at the negatives. You’ve made me want to start an old camera collection. Oh dear.
There are not enough words to describe my love for this post:):)
I have SUCH camera lust!!
I love this post! They all look so beautiful! I would love to have an old polaroid camera.:)
They are so pretty and I really like the kind of photo’s you can get from them.
That Olympus is a beauty. The subsequent models of that camera don’t have the retro feel anymore.
great finds!
