the naturals.

red.

i’m a big fan of natural woods, leather and earth-tone textiles thrown together in a room with a neutral white background. something about all that white makes the textures and tones of the wood pop and look much more modern, than, had they say, been dropped into a room with wood  paneling. leather poufs, sisal rugs and sheepskins offset mid-century modern pieces and give the rooms an interesting and unexpected contrast. here’s what i mean.

beautiful chaise photographed by david livingston for limn; mid-century modern shelving via red.

papa stour deerskins; and a stunning room styled by interior designer brad ford, via creamy life.

luke bartels’ wall of antlers, via remodelista; west elm’s wood wall clock; and a great moroccan leather pouf from red direct.

amazing open-shelved kitchen from the brooklyn home company; Smoke House Incense Burner with its own smoking chimney from gretel home; and pretty Washed-Wood Linear Baskets from west elm.

amazing vintage mid-century modern home furnishings from amsterdam modern.

some very natural styling by rosie brown; a deep sea macramé pendant lamp from smalltown; and a very furry boreal barstool from anthropologie.

one very rad bookcase displays an eclectic collection, via the selby.

i love this. kind of the look i am going for in our place in mill valley but with limited success! xo

  4. I hear you. For me, there is nothing better than pure white walls, but all white or grey rooms feel too ethereal for my taste. I need to feel grounded. You are right. No better way to ground than with wood, leather, and fur.

Love it all. This is pretty much my ideal, too. Thanks so much for such great inspiration, V!

    :)

  6. These designs are all so beautiful.. But I have to say..I am in love with the book shelf. I am going to hint to my husband that we should try and make one similar to it.

  7. I love working with as many natural textures as possible. I think there’s something so much more interesting about them – a certain richness perhaps?

  8. WOW, I’m so in love. This is exactly the look of my home, with the exception of the amazing Danish pieces which enter the household as funds allow. I’m a fan of the ‘slow’ decorating movement, acquiring amazing pieces over a lifetime..but sometimes impatience gets the better of me and I make an IKEA run for a quick fix. I usually regret it, especially when I see these rooms:)
    Thanks
