rockin’ scissors paper.

i love the work of artist jennifer collier. jennifer focuses on creating work from recycled paper; by bonding, waxing, trapping and stitching she produces unusual paper ‘fabrics’, which are used to explore the ‘remaking’ of household objects.

jennifer treats paper as if it’s cloth, with the main technique employed being stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles. The papers themselves serve as both the inspiration and the media for her work, with the narrative of the books and papers suggesting the forms. jennifer tends to find items, and then investigate a way in which they can be reused and transformed; giving new life to things that would otherwise go unloved or be thrown away. be sure to visit jennifer’s workshop & gallery space to view more of her incredible projects.

Totally love her work, I was wearing one of her brooches today.
I absolutely adore this! Jennifer’s work brings back memories of making paper dresses for a storefront window back when I was in college….but they were nowhere near this stunning!
so beautiful. bookmarking as we speak!
I’m obsessed with paper! These are great finds. Thanks for sharing.
Che bello!!! These projects are just delightful! I’m a paper junkie and like to make sculptures from found items/recyclables. I once tried sewing a dress out of a large brown paper bread bag…. much harder than i had anticipated. Now I’m inspired to get the tools out and give it another go. Thanks so much for sharing this great work :) Claudine
If I had only a camera like that…

Beautiful creations… Those cartography pieces caught my eye in my google reader. I too repurpose maps, but only two dimensional pieces. I love that all of Jennifer’s creations are so retro – very different materials yet you can tell one artist is behind them all.
I love Jennifer’s work, thank you for reminding me of it!
I nearly bought a pair of her paper shoes as a gift with their place of birth on the map used.
This was at her first show at Origin in London. Unfortunately, I could only stretch to a hairclip at the time, still wish I had gone for it!
Wow! These are fantastic! If you’d ever like to be featured on my site, please let me know!!
