the view from here this week:
1. photographer cara barer creates uniquely lovely sculptures from unwanted books. yes, some books are unwanted. cara realized she owned many books that were no longer of use to her, or for that matter, anyone else. seriously, would anyone ever need “Windows 95” again? uh, i think not. After soaking books in the bathtub for a few hours, they take on a new shape and purpose. then cara photographs them, quite beautifully. go look. thanks to photographer laurie frankel for telling me about her.
2, oh happy day! that’s what blogger jordan ferney brings to her blog each and every post. i love her diy ideas – when people ask me for party decor ideas, i send them jordan’s way. she’s the diy-bomb. i, on the other hand, am not. just look at this fun fringey party monogram you can make yourself. cute, right?
3. do y’all know about smilebooth? well if you want to make your party or wedding really fun, you’ll rent a smilebooth. these guys are so so great, and i guarantee you never had so much fun having your picture taken before. ever! here’s rebecca from permanently disco proving my point at alt summit.
4. my dear friend from south africa, neville trickett is back with two inspiring new websites — itswhatiminto (they’ve also got a new magazine app) and 5. mister trickett. neville has the most outstanding taste, so you simply must check out those two sites. i love this feature on marni for h&m.
6. and finally, it’s that time of year again — that time that completely creeps up on me and i miss every single year. why can’t i ever remember, it’s time for SXSW in austin, texas, the music capital of the world? music, film, tech/interactive, art — it’s a jam-packed good time. so i’ve heard. are you headed to SXSW? great, you can tell me all about it. again.
