i’ve joined the people against dirty.

fight the good, clean fight. stand up to toxins and words you can’t pronounce! join the people against dirty! i am a brand new, proud member of the people against dirty – but i guess you may have gathered that from my latest get-up, huh? but, you guys — i’m inspired!!

a couple of days ago you may have seen a bunch of us bloggers tweeting up a storm about our awesome visit to method headquarters. i’m already a huge fan of method cleaning products, so when they invited me to become a method maven and sponsor my blog, well, they had me at let’s fight dirty!

very cool co-founders eric and adam invited us to meet their method family — smell the good smells, hang out with environmental biochemists, and bottle shapers (even the darn bottles are vegan! and they’re not virgins either – all recycled plastic), artsy-fartsy designers and fragrance experts and learn all there was to learn about method. and it was like science meets art — which is one of my favorite collaborations anyway. i learned a ton of happy information! it was the most fun i’ve ever had getting clean with my clothes on.

by creating a plant-based concentrated laundry detergent pump method estimated an annual savings of:

• 45,000 tons of plastic (no more of those huge tubs of detergent)
• 2,000,000 gallons of water (that’s mostly what’s in those other brands’ big old tubs)
• 3 million gallons of gasoline (it takes big old trucks to transport those tubs, and method uses bio diesel trucks)

but i digress. or geek out — one of the two. the folks at method are passionate about the environment and making a product that’s not only good for it, but works! and it’s contagious! while we were there, they shared with us their new ‘method anthem’ and jordan and i both started crying it was so good. and so without further ado, i get to share it with you. i think you’re gonna love it. this anthem is gonna stick with you, and you’re going to want to join the people against dirty.

super great, right? so go join Method and fight dirty! they’re hosting a sweepstakes on Facebook for fans to win a trip for two to Method HQ in san francisco (much like our fun-filled experience there) and a year’s supply of method product! the sweepstakes starts today, March 12th and ends on April 3rd. go on and enter at Method’s Facebook page and join me in the fight against dirty!! are you already loving method? what’s your favorite product?

meet noah…you’re going to be seeing a lot of him around.

• many thanks to laurie frankel for photographing me in my new favorite jumpsuit. post sponsored by method, but all opinions expressed are my own. i love the stuff.

I love that photo of you! It’s adorable. Method is awesome. I love their laundry detergent that comes in a pump. So much better than using those containers with caps that just end up leaking all over the bottle and making my hands sticky. I HATE sticky hands. :)

So cool to see how Method and grown and evolved over the years! I remember when it was a tiny, local line with just a few products!
And, this is the most adorable photo of you I’ve ever seen. LOVE it! Go Method!

oh my gosh! I *love* method cleaning/home products. Their shower spray is divine (smells like baby lotion to me…) and they used to have this WONDERFUL room freshening disc/system in “GRASS”, which I loved – but, sadly, they no longer make. :( Hooray for Target for giving them their big break! And Congratulations on becoming a part of their “team”, so to speak.

  9. Victoria! I got all goose bumpy! I actually bought two bottles of Method hand soap when we moved in to our new place purely based on the design of the bottle. It’s pretty!

So happy to learn more about this company and continue supporting them. And I love your jumpsuit. ;)

Good for Method!! I’ve been a fan of Seventh Generation for years, but I am thrilled to see other companies jumping on board with environmentally friendly ideas.

I started using Method after i knocked over my bottle of blue dawn dish detergent and never wanted to see that blue color again lol. I <3 their orange dish detergent, the packaging being chic is a bonus :)

  12. Lindsey says:

I’ve seen this on some other blogs too. So much fun!

I have been using method since 2007. It’s so hard to pick just one item, but I think I have to go with the laundry detergent. Really is fragrance free (good for my allergies and sensitive skin!), works so well, and the pump. How can you not love that pump?! No measuring no mess. Just pump and get on with it!

i am loving the jumpsuit and the braids of course. i’m not sure about method, i guess i’ve avoided the brand b/c their products still have sulfates in them and alcohol which can be very drying for me. i do love that they are a green company and can certainly appreciate that. i still can’t make myself buy non-organic products for my family, pets or myself, although Method sure gets props for their designs and commercials. i’m also one of those people that still believe in cleaning with lemons, oranges, baking soda and vinegar, so it may be just me :)

      Hi Nicole,

I checked in with the biochemists at Method for you in regards to the alcohol and sulfates, and this may be more than you wanted to know, but it should alleviate your fears of their products drying your skin:

      • they do contain some alcohol, but it is naturally derived ethanol fermented from corn. Alcohol is used at levels around 1% and is completely non-toxic and not drying at those levels. It is an effective solvent that is readily biodegradable.

      • Alcohol ethoxylate is a very different ingredient – it is made from lauryl alcohol, a natural oil from coconut or palm kernel.

      • Sulfates is just a catch-all term relating to SLS and SLeS and related compounds (it wouldn’t include the canola ingredient you found, even though that contains sulfate in the name). When deciding to use Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in some of our formulations, method did a complete assessment of the environmental and health aspects of this ingredient, including tests for toxicity and biodegradability. This was done in cooperation with the EPEA, an independent environmental research institute led by Dr. Michael Braungart, author of the landmark text Cradle to Cradle. Their findings showed SLS to be altogether safe in its intended usage, non-toxic, non-carcinogenic and environmentally preferable.

      Whew – but reassuring! ;)

      • nicole says:

most definitely reassuring Victoria! shooeee you are so cool to look into this. it is so difficult to decipher b/w all of the scary/confusing maybe/maybe not toxic terms out there. i am down with the coconut kernel for sure vs. the other no-no stuff.. coconut is a winner all around in my book for so many things. i get what you are saying about this.

and non-carcinogenic and non-toxic levels are key! there are still so many arguments as to how much is too much and so on; and as a concerned consumer it can be overwhelming, thus my reasoning for skipping it altogether. but now maybe i don’t have to give up cuteness and eco friendly packaging out of fear or worry :) thank you for doing your homework & for taking the time to share. oxo

      • victoria says:

happy to help, nicole. and so are the folks at method. they got right back to me with an answer. :)

  15. Kat Taylor says:

i love method’s concentrated laundry soap. i saw it while picking up some stuff for my house about two months ago and have been hooked ever since. aside from the environmental aspect, large bottle of detergent always bothered me. those ridiculous plastic cups either leave traces of detergent on the bottle or on the washer where you leave them. they’re impossibly heavy, and when you get to the bottom i feel like you’re always leaving a good four or five loads untouched simply because it is a ridiculous amount of trouble to get them out of the bottle. on the flip side, whenever i opted for small bottles of the more delicate detergents they ran out in a week or two. method has been such a welcome change – light, effective and it smells great. and two months later, the same bottle is still going strong (i try to consolidate loads to save water and energy, but with an 18 month old i do a ton of laundry, so this is saying something)! love the product and the post!

  16. Eleni says:

Hehe, that’s a really awesome way to show off a product! You look very cool in this 60ies-like environment!

  17. I’ve been using Method in Australia for at least 3 years? and it’s fantastic on so many levels. Anyone that takes the ordinary {packaging wise} and turns it into something beautiful is on an absolute win. Ugly, tacky cleaning product packaging is just so dispiriting to use. And you know what – we are better than that. It does bring joy into a daily task.Love the ad too – very happy!

  18. Nicola says:

I discovered Method a few years ago in the UK and couldn’t believe my luck!

It was the first time I’d found products that didn’t make me feel ill as I have a compromised immune system.

I immediately contacted the company to see if I could import it or find out who was. They had just organised a deal with a large supermarket.

    Fantastic products!

  19. Magee says:

Yay, Victoria!! I love, love, love Method. It took me all of a nano-second to recognize that it was you, braids and all, in that jumpsuit — just goes to show what smart fellers those Method people are!!

  20. how ADORABLE do you look in your method jumpsuit? VERY!

  21. sara says:

method rocks! my current fave is the eucalyptus+mint bathroom cleaner. they used to make a yummy green mint lotion i loved…

that video is so fun…i would like to skateboard through balloon bubbles please!

  22. Mathieu says:

J’ADORE Method products! Thanks for introducing me to their website.
Of course, very few people can rock a jumpsuit. You, my dear, take it to new levels of style and sass. WORKING. IT.
