oh, hello domino.

perhaps you’ve heard? much beloved decor magazine domino is back! not completely, like 100% back — this is a special edition the publishers have put out called Domino Quick Fixes, which hit newsstands nationwide on April 17th. it’s a bit of the old favorites from the domino archives, meshed with some new decor images, some grand styling tips and a valuable resource guide. i like it, but to be honest, i secretly was hoping for a bit more new. however, it is so good to see domino back in print, and i for one, am just hoping this is some kind of test marketing issue, and domino will be back for good, producing 12 issues a year in print. i miss my print and i’d subscribe! i say we let them know how much we missed domino!

I still have my stack of dominos and would subscribe again in a minute. Everything was good about Domino, up to the last page.

  4. did you take any time off to regroup yet? do it!

as far as domino, i still have my stacks of domino and look through them all the time for inspiration. by far my favorite decorating magazine ever. comfortable, doable, within reach design. can’t wait to pick this up and hopefully publishers will take the hint. we want domino.

  5. I miss domino too! I like the fact that they brought back a little bit of it, but I’d love to see more!

  6. Oh man, I thought I saw something about this last week but dismissed it as false. I (gulp) recently went through all my old Domino mags & tore out what I wanted to keep & tossed the rest…still kicking myself for that. Guess that means I need to go out & purchase the new/old issue!

Sad for the person who never heard of it… how can you love design but know nothing of this magazine? It has not been that long!

I hope they release this copy in an iPad version. I actually want both!

  10. I heared about this magazine through Holly of decor8 Never saw it though ;) perhaps it will be at ABC in Amsterdam as well.

My stash of Dominos has been slowly pilfered by my daughters (10 & 7) who, even in their youth, appreciate a good thing in design.

Oh Domino, won’t you return to me? Grace my mailbox with your gorgeous images? Dance new ideas and tips before my eyes? And inspire me?

  12. Monica Lee says:

I think I have every single issue of the original-someone told me to sell them ebay, haha! I love a good magazine and they are getting harder to come by-I love having them wait for me in my mailbox!

  13. Amanda says:

I was living in Australia when Domino closed and it never made it there, so I’m excited to get my hands on a copy now. So often I stand in the magazine section hunting for a good shelter mag and it’s really sad that this has happened to the industry. Time to bring it back!

  15. Jillian says:

You never appreciate good things fully until they’re gone! I was just getting into design and beautiful living when Domino went away. I promise to subscribe eternally if I ever get the chance again.

  16. Tracey says:

Oh my, this post just made my heart sing :)

I bought the new issue as soon as I spotted it. I love my old issues, and have every one tucked away in boxes. The new Domino is missing a little of its soul..as in all of the lovely people who worked so hard to make it special. But it’s a new beginning, and hopefully it will grow into something new and special on its own. Good luck Domino.

  18. Kelly says:

I also was a bit disappointed with this “new” issue, even though I was very excited to spy it in the racks at Target & bring it home! I almost felt like they copied the format of the Design Sponge book (and their own book) with the resources & guides sections. Oh well. Hope to see more!!

  19. Tracy says:

I collect interior design magazines (mostly French), and believe it or not, I still have every issue of Domino ever printed. All in perfect condition!

  20. Karlee says:

I missed Domino too… so much! I was also a bit disappointed with the new issue and was hoping for more new, but fingers crossed that they will make a full come back b/c I would subscribe in a second!

  21. Melanie says:

I miss it too. I was so bummed when they started sending me Lucky instead!

  22. 3 cheers for Domino – print is not dead! I still read the SF Chronicle from cover to cover every single Sunday.

  23. Jen says:

I was just looking at my collections of both Domino AND Blueprint, missing them each respectively. Those publications were wonderful… and I’m so happy to hear that one might be coming back! I’d subscribe without a second thought.

  24. Sarah says:

I miss Domino too and was excited when I saw the issue. Although it was refreshing to see familiar images, something wasn’t the same for me. Kind of like the spark had gone- you know. Domino was definitely the “it” magazine of the moment, and I suppose it’s difficult to recreate that without the original writing and editing staff.

  25. Diane says:

    PLEASE COME BACK!!

  26. Amy Ruth says:

I miss Domino! Luckily I saved many of my issues. I would agree that the special issue recently released is a lot of old and not so much new. Hopefully Domino will be back!
