the making of a space: makeshift society.
so, the word is out, and makeshift society’s membership is growing every day. but still lots more room — you can find out about membership here. and we’ve got a big party coming up at The Bold Italic on August 15th called The Art of Fancy — you can sign up for that at eventbrite. but space is limited, so you might want to put that at the top of the to-do’s. photojojo is going to be providing us with some surprising ways to get to know each other with some fuji instax mini cameras, and kate and her team from skill exchange are going to be sharing with us just how to get fancy. you’ll see…good times.
i thought i’d share with you how i’m coming along with getting the makeshift members something to sit on. a desk or two to write, or plop your laptop down on. there’s been a great group of partners jumping in to help makeshift get started, and without them, well, let’s just say it might look more like kindergarten nap hour with your blankies spread about to sit on, rather than a real-live office. here’s what we’ve got going on so far, with much more to come.
1. the kind folks at restoration hardware provided us with two big beautiful boulangerie tables for the library area; 2. there’s a bunch of really cute vintage french schoolhouse chairs from greenhouse design studio on the way; 3. schoolhouse electric will be lighting up the place with their beautiful factory pendant lamps; 4. public bikes has sent over two his & her bikes for members to run errands, grab coffee, pick up lunches — you get the idea; and 5. schoolhouse is also going to make are bathroom glow with their franklin wall sconces with cool cages. we’ve also got super supportive sponsors like chronicle books and princeton architectural press filling up our floor to ceiling bookcases. and the lovely people at method are going to keep our space clean happy with their eco-friendly cleaning products.
add to that some mix and match vintage pieces we’ve been on the hunt for, and the look is coming together. we even found these rad vintage lockers for members to store their stuff in, and added some diy neon knobs! there’s much more to come, so stay tuned and follow along with us on facebook and twitter, too!
