bartender, drink please.

i love everything about this beautiful bar belonging to new york-based scout designs’ nicki clendening. photographed for lonny magazine by patrick cline, it’s just such a pretty palette. i want to recreate it for myself — which means i’m going to need to round up some pretty whisky and cider bottles and figure out just how to make those pretty spiced kumquats (that’s what they are, right)? looks like a good weekend project!

Hello from NYC! Someone just sent me this link and said “is this your bar?!” It is, so I thought I would chime in. The ‘bar’ is in fact on top of my fridge. In a small NYC apt you have to make every bit of space count, so this is where I put mine. And yes, those are Louisiana kumquats (raided from a friends tree every holiday season) and one of the jars has tequila and jalapenos in it for margaritas. The other is for kumquat-cello. Lamp is vintage purchase from NYC flea market. The Fire Cider is a recent find and it packs a wonderful punch! You can find it at firecider.com. Hope this helps. Cheers, Nicki

hi nicki! thanks so much for answering all our questions! after looking at it some more, i thought it could be your fridge. i love that about ny kitchens and apartments in general – so little space and so much charm!

now i want a cocktail! cheers!

Lovely! I also really like Liana Krissoff’s recipe for preserved kumquats in “Canning for a New Generation”. You should check out her book, it’s really great. While her preserved kumquats aren’t spiced, they are a fantastic go-to for plopping in a glass of, say, Hendricks with a very generous squeeze of lime juice on top. Mmmm….
