let’s take a little joyride.

this road trip to tahoe is in partnership with volvo joyride.

just when i thought i’d done about every job under the sun, i’m adding stunt driver to my resume. This summer, Volvo is kicking off the volvo joyride contest on pinterest, which invites you to pin your idea of the ultimate road trip experience, and they invited me to help launch the contest. they put me in one of their very fun Volvo S60’s and had a film crew follow me and my best friend joni up to south lake tahoe. try and picture a cute camera man hanging out the window of the crew’s car as we zipped along the highway filming, me trying my very best to be a badass driver. amusing, yes? and, it was super fun. you can watch the whole trip on video here.

we did all the stuff you normally do on a freewheeling joyriding roadtrip — we stopped for burgers, we laughed, we dorked out to good roadtrip music, stopped along the way in an old mining town called Placerville and checked out the thrift stores. on the road, we had walkie-talkies and they’d give me driving instructions like “okay, pass us” or “okay, you’re having a bit too much fun on the curves, victoria, slow down.” good times had by all. hilarity ensued.

so, now it’s your turn to win your ultimate volvo joyride. like i did, you simply create a volvo joyride pinboard and pick and pin everything from the music, to the outfit you’d wear, to your dream destination on pinterest, and the winner of this contest will receive their pinned road trip*! yeah, i know – fun huh? you pin everything you’d love about your favorite joyride and you could win it. the rules and details are right here.

we even made a joyride mix tape for you.

my volvo joyride included staying at the very cool basecamp hotel in south lake tahoe, where you feel like you’ve gone to adult camp — some of the rooms even have tents and bunkbeds. they’re s’mores every evening by the firepit, and fab art on the walls done by local artist wendy mcnaughton. the place was amazing! all and all, a completely fab roadtrip in a really special car.

here’s what you could win for your own hand-picked volvo joyride:

*Three (3) Grand Prize Winners, upon confirmation of eligibility, will each receive the following prize package from Pinterest Volvo Joyride contest:

• One (1) 4-day lease of a Volvo S60 T5 AWD
• two (2) night stay in a hotel at your road trip destination
• one (1) $250 Gas Gift Card to get you there
• one (1) $250 VISA gift card to spend as you wish
• one (1) $250 clothing retailer gift card
• one (1) $50 iTunes gift card to make your roadtrip tunes

Please go to Pinterest Volvo Joyride to learn more and read the rules. On September 28th, 2012, the Sponsor-designated judges will narrow down all the entrants to five (5) entrants, based on the following criteria: the five boards with the most total pin likes, comments and re-pins will make it to the next round of judging. Then those final five will be judged based on creativity, interaction from friends/followers, quality of images, and sharing socially. Happy pinning!

This is very cool. I need to read it again to soak it all in! Love the old postcards of Lake Tahoe. They bring back so many memories of going there in the 60’s. Got to check out this hotel/tent you stayed in!

Basecamp Hotel looks super cute, Victoria! I was having a hard time finding something to book for my husband’s birthday this month (in our price range and without the B&B Victorian flower motif), and they have availability that weekend at a very affordable price. Thank you for a September miracle! Plus, our doggie gets to go.
