tuesday’s girl: baubles.

valentine-gifts

hello ladies and gentlemen — this is a public service announcement. valentine’s day is coming up in a little less than a month’s time and whether you’re looking for something special for a loved one, or just love yourself so much you think you deserve to get yourself a gift (and we all do!), i’ve got some ideas for you. i like jewelry, but none of those heart shaped pendants for me, uh-uh. give me (hint, hint) a unique or handmade bauble any day of the week. here’s a few on my hit list:

clockwise, l to r: aesa hex rings from bona drag; Vintage Lufkin Ruler Bangle by jacq; arrowstack necklace from madewell; madewell braided friendship bracelet; stump ring by digby & iona; anthropologie’s blooming fondant bib necklace; j.crew classic link bracelet; a merry mishap’s black fringe necklace; Simple Crown Ring in sterling silver by laonato; buckminster necklace from candystore collective; Topaz cocktail ring by midwest Alchemy; Nestled set of Black rose cut diamond rings by sunday owl; sitka earrings by stone & honey.

I love the tree stump ring! That is so cute if it’s possible to engrave it with whatever letters you want! =)

Amazing pieces. The arrowstac necklace is my favourite.

lovely but also hilarious. the naming. you’d think people would know that a hexagon has six sides, not five, or that buckminster fuller’s bucky ball is a truncated icosahedron, not a cuboctrahedron like on that necklace. i see this everywhere these days. “oh nobody will know, we’ll just choose the coolest looking geometric thing and name it some totally unrelated but cool-sounding name”

maia – ha! you little math wiz! :)

haha right?! there’s never been a better (or more frustrating!) time to be a mathematician who loves design! so many beautiful geometric things.

Actually, I have read that the reason those rings are called 3d hex is because the designer thought that the stone would ‘put a love hex on whomever saw it” and she thought it was funny to play with the two terms. anyway, aesa has been making ‘geometric’ jewelry since before it was the fad. why be a hater if things move people?

I would gladly wear any of these. I think my favorite are those Aesa rings, which I’ve seen before and stare at for a few minutes every time I come across them. Looks like I’ll be adding a few more Etsy shops to my favorites list!

Great selection! FYI Digby and Iona’s stump ring available at Fiat Lux and Rose Gold’s Tattoo and Piercing in San Francisco!

thanks so much for the interesting background, laura. i like that idea!

i don’t think she was being a ‘hater’ at all though- just pointing out a funny fact. :)

      • laura says:

fair enough. i actually regretted writing that and couldnt go back to change it. had just had a wine-flush dinner with people who were disparaging everything geometric and i like that people feel things.

      • victoria says:

damn internet and wine. ;) we all do it sometimes.
