This is Oakland: A Guide to the City’s Most Interesting Places is the newest venture from Melissa Davis of Ruby Press with photography by Kristen Loken. Showcasing their idea of the most interesting places to visit in Oakland – from cafes to boutiques – and the people who own and work in them, and if you want to get your hands on this book, head on over to their Kickstarter campaign to back this beautiful project! The best perk is that many of the businesses This is Oakland features have contributed some amazing rewards for donating – membership to Donut Savant’s Donut Society, a private floral demonstration for you and 24 of your friends from Ron Morgen (owner of Loot in Rockridge), and a custom ring redesign from jewelry designer Kate Ellen, just to name a few.

It’s nice to know there are so many new and exciting places to see and eat and do in Oakland. Hopefully will be out West some time next year.

This looks like such a great project and guide. I just moved to the SF Bay area one month ago from Copenhagen and I am slowly getting accustomed to my new surroundings and exploring. I look forward to checking out some of the shops profiled in the Oakland guide. Are there any, off the top of your head, that are a must-visit/see? Do you have any favourite Oakland locations?
