designlovefest | a bedroom makeover.
i’m super excited today to share the bedroom makeover i’ve been working on with my good friend bri at designlovefest! i mentioned we were collaborating on this project a while back when i went down to los angeles to hangout and brainstorm with bri, and we’ve finally wrapped what’s been a dream project to work on together. bri wanted a bedroom that was a serene, peaceful retreat, where she could go to get away from the computer and relax, and she knew she wanted a modern, scandinavian feel — i think we were both really inspired by our trip to stockholm. nothing overly feminine, but still a pastel color palette. we stuck with gray, pale pinks, blush, brass and used light, natural wood furnishings. here’s a little bit of the before and after. for more details about the project (and a giveaway!), hop on over to designlovefest — and if you’d like to see some our brainstorming, check our pinterest boards — here’s bri’s and mine. thanks so much to laure joliet who photographed the project so beautifully for us.
we added beautiful brass branch wall sconces from cedar and moss on either side of the bed for night time reading, and a george nelson saucer lamp from modernica for overhead mood lighting, on a dimmer. the modern case study bentwood nightstands are from modernica, as well — and actually modernica is hosting a $500 giveaway to celebrate the makeover over on designlovefest so pop on over there today to enter.
bri wanted to keep the bed simple, and we got one with great storage since we got rid of the large white dresser she’d been using. we got the IKEA mandal bed which has four deep drawers in the frame of the bed with some amazing hideaway stash space. we added the cozy chay blanket and bodie and fou’s super soft linen bedding in white and pale pink, and for texture threw in west elm’s fluffy mongolian lamb pillow. above the bed, bri selected this amazing THE SKY ABOVE print by Gregor Hochmuth from ugallery.
to display bri’s collectibles, she chose ferm living’s round dorm shelving — i love this piece! the credenza is a bit of makeover magic — we ordered a pretty basic IKEA credenza, but bri really wanted some white carrera marble in the room, so she had a custom piece cut to fit the top to modernize the credenza a bit and we replaced the old legs with mid-century modern estelle legs from pretty pegs, which is a genius idea for a company! the white ranarp table lamp is also from IKEA. we added a pretty Moroccan Beni Ourain Rug to warm up the wood floors from the pink rug co. and lastly, we added floor-length curtains to create the illusion of larger windows and chose the cotton linen curtains with metal grommets and hung them with the industrial pipe rods, both from west elm.
for practical, but pretty storage bri added her shop class large woven basket. then as a finishing touch, we knew wanted to create a small gallery wall in the room, so bri curated some of her favorite pieces from tappan collective: cheryl humphrey’s many moons No.6, and many moons No. 14; alyson provax’s diagram 1; brian merriam’s alone together; and isaac zoller’s escondida shore break.
and voilá! the makeover is complete — i hope you like it!
