back to reality! i’m home from my trip to maui, and while i was instagramming my trip, many of you asked for some of my favorite spots. the place i always stay is puamana and i found this unit via airbnb, a small community of condos just south of lahaina. it’s super quiet, with a pool smack on the water — it’s in fact right on a great surf break and so it’s like a non-stop surf show all day long. it’s probably not for everyone, because it so quiet, but that’s the reason i like it. it’s away from the pretty touristy lahaina, but close enough to go into town if we feel like it.

that said, lahaina is a fun spot to go for drinks — there’s several spots along the water with great views of the sunset. but my favorite restaurants are off the beaten path. a great spot for lunch was leoda’s — we had some yummy fish and chips with fresh caught local ono. but what’s really divine here are their pies — coconut cream and banana cream were our favorites. owned by the same folks is star noodle — kind of asian fusion and really, really good. the cocktails are great too. we had a mint & lemon infused cold sake drink. i guess these restaurateurs have the monopoly on good food here because they also run aloha mixed plate. it’s a pretty low key kinda place, right on the water, and they serve typical hawaiian faire of ribs, fresh fish, etc. all served with rice and macaroni salad, a standard around the islands. it’s a good place for a view of the sunset, a drink and a quick meal. my favorite sushi spot is up the coast at the kapalua resort — sansei, with a super lively atmosphere and it’s delicious and so fresh.

other than those spots, i don’t have a ton of recommendations because when i come here, i like to lay low swim, read by the pool and bbq fresh fish and eat a lot of ahi tuna poke (the safeway in lahaina makes it fresh each day and it’s amazing – i swear!). but go snorkeling, take a surfing lesson, rent a paddleboard or drive the beautiful road to hana and visit the seven sacred pools — it’s all so much fun. it was a great trip, but also good to be back home, get back to the blog and hug my pup!

aloha! xx victoria
