memorial day marks the beginning of summer here in the states. picnics, barbecues and road trips abound with everyone excited to get summer rolling. i know after my vacation i’m ready for a little more fun in the sun. what is it about a holiday that just makes you want more of the same? it’s time to improve your mood with bright colors and bold accents – here’s a few ideas to get your summertime going.

summer requires a great beach bag: the raffia fringe tote bag from anthropologie is ideal; i’d love to take a trip to the Puerto Escondido Hotel Mexico by Grupo Habita; and this sunny life beach radio also from anthropologie will keep your outdoor parties rockin.

when you set your summer party table get festive and add lots of color with print tablecloths, dishware and maybe mix up some colored chairs too, via real living, photo by lindyl crabb and kristen susans.

time to test out new cocktail recipes: the Pomegranate & Purple Basil Gin Smash from bakers royale; a perfect sun island embroidered tote bag from anthropologie; one of my favorite vacation spots in the world — cinque terre by tec petaja photography; and brighten up your walls for summer with a Furry Electric Cherry Fields Handwoven tapestry.

while you’re mixing up those cocktails, try mixing and matching your glassware, too. much more festive — via 100 layer cake.

maybe it’s time to hit the desert? the ace hotel is always fun for that, get a float while you’re at, via lovely indeed; i’ve been dying to get a regular weekend bocce ball game going and this is a real pretty set for summer, from terrain; i think it’s a good plan to change up the sheets — bright ones that help you wake up happy and jump out of bed, via dabito; and i think all of us at one time or another have had daydreams about roadtripping in a camper and this one is so cute, by lynsey fryers styling.
