instagram has got to be one of the happiest apps ever invented. i love looking at life in instagrams. i mean, how cool is it to wake up with a cup of coffee and take a tour around the world while you slowly get inspired for the day? i love following instagrammers from all over and having a glimpse into how they’re starting their days, seeing how the ‘other half’ live in places near and far. but, it’s also a great tool for traveling.

i’m heading down to los angeles for a little holiday next week and i plan on checking out my instagram feed for new places to visit. i was thinking what better way to see the place i grew up through fresh eyes — yours!

have so much fun! was just there for labor day weekend trying to convince my boyfriend we should move there ; ) i love it there so much.
my tips — definitely spend a day at the beach in malibu & go on a hike in griffith & watch the sunset at the observatory after.
& tacos at Tacos Villa Corona in Atwater Village! a must.
also my new favorite place is The Huntington Library botanical garden, the desert garden specifically because it has the oldest & largest collection of cacti & succulents.

  2. Hotel Figueroa downtown is a very special place. The pool. The cavernous lobby. The secret passageways. The Morocco-vibe at the bar. Worth a visit!

Such a great idea! I live out in Pasadena, which is pretty far East, but in case you get over this way, here are my favorite places nearby:
Huntington Gardens (the desert garden is out of control amazing)
Little Flower Candy Company (for lunch and sweet treats)
Cafe de Leche in Highland Park (horchata lattes!)

    Have fun in LA!

This is a fabulous way to use Instagram!
Make sure you visit the Arts District in downtown LA. You’ll find yummy food (savory + sweet), plus cool shops like Poketo. There’s cool architecture and graffiti too.

Check out Grand Central Market in the downtown LA area. Coffee, egg sandwiches, pastries, burgers…go early so you can sample everything!

Hi! I LOVE my weekend visits to LA. Hope you have a blast!

    A few favorites:

Squirl – best brunch in LA

Silverlake Farmers Market – beautiful food, beautiful people

The Griffith Observatory – its just so romantic

Malibu Wines – bring a picnic and wear your boho best. This is a great place to spend an afternoon and people watch

The Grand Central Market – grab some food before you grab drinks at the Ace or Standard

1642 – fun little bar. great, low key atmosphere with lovely live music – ask for the Haikubes game behind the bar

Gorbals – in DTLA. On thursday nights after 10 they have a wonderful live band and dancers of all levels get on the floor and Lindy Hop. It is full of beautiful people dressed up – you will feel totally transported back in time. On Saturday mornings the pop up KTCH DTLA takes over. The brunch is delicious!

The Last Bookstore LA – it is hard to describe how delightful, colorful, and inspiring this place is. Go grab some macaroons at Bottega Louie

The Magic Castle – okay, I’m not joking, this place is so much fun! Dress up in your fanciest outfit and spend the evening between closeup magic shows, drinking swanky cocktails next to a magic piano, watching the old fashioned bartender bust out card tricks, and ducking in and out of secret hiding places throughout the mansion. Lets just say that you have to go through a rotating bookcase to get in. Another great place to check out beautiful people!

DONT MISS the Chandelier Tree! My advice: grab a yummy vegan milkshake at Sage and wander through the beautiful Silverlake neighborhood until you happen up on it. It is a delight and even better at night!

I second Cafe De Leche in Highland Park, and while you’re there check out Good Girl Dinette for seeeeriously good “Vietnamese comfort food.” (Try their rice noodle bowls!)

In the Arts District, I’d recommend an Especiale, poutine-style and a Caesar Salad at Umami, followed by a slice of Maple Custard at the Pie Hole. And if you need a little pick-me-up, grab an espresso and milk at Handsome Coffee.

  8. Gabbie says:

Oh, and if you’re checking out Grand Central Market (I’d recommend an Almond Macadamia Latte at G&B), swing over to the Last Bookstore on 5th & Spring. Make sure you get upstairs for art installations and galleries, plus tons more books! The true crime/weird section is inside an old bank vault.

There are so many fun spots to visit in LA! The spot that I tagged on instagram (my user name is allitav) is the santa monica pier. It can get crowed, and is kind of a touristy thing to do, but it’s so fun to go anyway. There’s an arcade on the pier that has 2 analog photo booths, and tons of old smelly skee ball and pack man machines. The views from the pier are pretty magical too! It’s a short walk from the 3rd street promenade, which has tons of fun shops and places to eat.
    Enjoy your vacation!! :)

    Hi there,

Have a great time. I USED to live in LA so I have suggestions but can’t take Insta-pics for you.

Find the Kogi BBQ truck – TRUST (get the short rib tacos and sliders)

Hinoki & The Bird is great for dinner (went last time i was in town – very special)

If you’re there for a while – go to the Long Beach Flea Market. Much more manageable/less crowded than Rose Bowl.

The museums in LA can’t compare to SF (or my home NYC) but the Getty Center is worth checking out (if only for the jetliner views of LA) Also worth touring the Schindler house or Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House.

If you’re driving down highway 1 stop at Farmstand 46 on the way – so worth it!
