at home in brooklyn.

as you may have seen on instagram, i’m on a working holiday in new york this week, and staying in Williamsburg, brooklyn in a wonderful airbnb. it’s a historic townhouse, built perhaps in the late 1880’s complete with all the charms that come with that — a walk-up with some seriously well-worn hardwood floors, cozy fireplace, a beautiful old bannister and used brick walls throughout. the light is quite lovely, as well.

i always opt for renting a home over a hotel, because while hotels can be totally luxurious, it’s just so great staying in a place that’s more like home than a hotel could ever provide. i love to splurge on a hotel now and then, but for extended stays with friends, renting a house allows all four of us to share the space (this one is a 3 bedroom / 2 bath), cook meals together, hang out in front of the fireplace with good wine, great food and lots of laughter. good times ensue! this airbnb is a funky, eclectic space and i love that — every room tells a new story. home is where your heart is, and this place feels just like that.

  1. Oh my, that is absolutely my dream home. Wooden floorboards, exposed brick and lots of natural light!! SWOON. I too am a big fan of Airbnb, I stayed in a city centre apartment at the top of 4 flights of stairs in Brussels and could not have been happier. God I love this blog.

Wow! You really hit the Airbnb jackpot with this one! It’s so beautiful, cozy and full of personality. Must have made you want to stay even longer.

  3. Wow! Such a cool spot. And I totally agree with you about home vs. hotel. I just got back from San Fran where we rented out the cutest little home for four of us. It was great being able to cook and have space to hang out with our friends. So homey!

They even have a turntable! Very unfussy but interesting. Instantly home.

Ahhh, it looks so cosy and inviting. I feel like you could spend hours just looking round at all the trinkets in each room!!

  6. An exceptional place with very unique and quirky design choices. I am currently fixing up a older place and i want to still use some of the older design traits to update the existing building to make it more hip and cool to live in.

Agreed! Hotels always feel so sterile and anti-social. I stayed in two fab airbnb’s in Tokyo and Amsterdam. Had a horrible experience in NYC though. Bad luck for me. I’ve been deliberating between a sofa that is gray (which I find boring), flecked cream, or black. The black sofa in the living room just confirmed for me that black felt wool will be fab! What did you think about it, Victoria?

Ooooh, this space is so beautiful! Spotted your photos of the apartment on Instagram, and had to pop over to see more. Hope your time in NY was enjoyable!
