a day in the desert.

lost bird found.

gosh darn fog. the sun keeps coming out here in san francisco just enough to tease us, and then it hides away again, and that misty gray comes blowing back in over the hills just about the time you want to pull out the old barbecue. i’m missing warm days, so we’re hitting the desert. i’m imaging a house with a big turquoise pool somewhere, lots of lounge chairs, and a retro mid-century modern flair. grab a mai tai, get on your spf, and let’s put on some frank on!

it hasn’t been that long since i posted about the charming miss emily chalmers (what a perfect name for her that is!), but oh heck, i miss her anyway. i’ve been fantasizing about running away and living in london, notting hill to be specific, ever since my trip there last may, and you never know — maybe i’ll just have to become portobellogirlbyroad or some such silly name.

perhaps it’s my family’s british ancestry, but i love london, and wanted to see what miss chalmers and her gorgeous shop caravan was up to. so here’s a bit of a glimpse! and remember, even if you haven’t got a trip planned for london town anytime soon, you can still shop the lovely caravan online and find the bounty of emily’s inspiring books here.

Take A Caravan Trip.

While in London we visited a store I’ve been dying to get to for ages. Emily Chalmer’s Caravan is just as lovely as I had imagined it to be. We went way out of our way just to drop in, and I’m so glad we did! In fact, we had to hunt the shop down because Caravan has recently moved to a charming new location, and are no longer inside Spitalfield’s Market, and instead are located in a cute little alley nearby. Emily Chalmers is a freelance stylist, self-confessed flea market addict (oh, why does that sound familiar?) and the author of Flea Market Style, one my favorite home design books, as well as Contemporary Country and Table Inspirations, two other very lovely books. Oh, how I love this girl’s style!

The Caravan shop is full of fab British flair, and I did a fair amount of damage here, including buying one of those cute little Caravans. Everyone needs a miniature Caravan, right? If I can’t have a life-size one, I might as well have a wee one! If you’re not hopping across the pond to London anytime soon, you can always shop online, or just enjoy these pretty pictures and save them in your memory banks for your next trip!
