there’s a hush-hush photo shoot going on at my place today, and i’d tell you, but you know the old saying. two can keep a secret if one is dead. and i like y’all way too much for that! so, i’ll be off for the rest of the afternoon. in the meantime, i hope you enjoy the awesome reader giveaway just below. so, until tomorrow, i bid you adieu!

i’ve really been wanting a new bicycle since my move to noe valley. the old 3-speed motobecane i have just doesn’t quite cut it on these hills. so i’ve been looking around. a lot. for a vintage-looking bike, but a practical and functional one, as well. and on the first day of my vacation i ended up buying a new one! i had actually just gone out for a walk, over to the mission district, and ended up riding home on a brand new raleigh roadster i got after dropping in at valencia cyclery.

valencia cyclery were super nice to work with (thanks, s.b.!) and i test drove a few. but the raleigh felt right, and so home i rode her (along with the fresh squid, dulce de lece, chiles, and everything else i picked up strolling around the mission that day!). here’s a peak at ‘sophie’ my new bike (above shots), and a whole bunch of other bikes i’d been thinking about, along with some great bicycling accessories.

okay, kids, it’s time for me to take a little summer sabbatical. i haven’t taken time off since may ’09 on my trip to london, and am feeling the need to shut down a bit. so this time, i’m going nowhere, except my backyard and some adventures around the city. a staycation in my very own san francisco. just wandering about, without a plan in sight.

oh gosh, i don’t mean to gush, but i don’t even know where to begin to tell you how great alt summit in salt lake city was! not only did we all get out of our pajames, and out from behind our computer screens, but there was so much bonding, generosity and such a blast to be had! from the panels, to the parties, and happy hours — everyone, and i mean everyone (!!) was so nice and so supportive of each other. i met so many new and inspiring friends at alt, and discovered countless blogs i’d never had the pleasure of knowing previously in my secluded little blogger world.

the summit kicked off with a great early bird presentation on ‘How to Find the Best Design Sites‘ with fabulous speakers Jaime Derringer of Design Milk, Nicole Balch of Making It Lovely, Allison Czarnecki of Petit Elefant, and Karey Mackin of Mackin Ink. and today, i’m going to share some of the great sites the panel shared, and some very new favorites of mine here in this post. be sure and check out all this blog fabulousness!

the following alt summit opening day was kicked off with amazing keynote speakers Jean Aw of NotCot, Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge & Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan of Apartment Therapy, and introduced and moderated by none other than heather armstrong of dooce. let’s just say, hilarity ensued — that woman is brilliant. then, quickly followed by some invaluable, honest insights, information and eye candy.

even when i knocked over a glass of water on the speakers’ podium (yes, mortified, and so very me!), everyone just laughed it off, but in the good way, if there is one. i was terrified up there speaking for the first time, but the alt audience and my panel members galya, and sarahjane , and moderator emily, all helped me keep it together.

even having blogged since 2006, i learned more at alt summit than i could have hoped for. and, as i said, discovered some amazing new friends and blogs in the process. all of the panel discussions were filled with diverse, and invaluable information. and, not only was the grand america hotel freaking magnificent, the alt organizers did the most amazing job organizing, and running things as smooth as butter. i’m not exaggerating, i was so impressed, and frankly, quite blown away. if you couldn’t make it this year, i for one, will definitely see you back at alt summit next year. one word: go!

i’ll be here in ‘spirit’ with fresh blog posts all week, but i am leaving town, and i’m pretty darn excited — and, very nervous, too! because, this afternoon, i’m off to the altitude design summit in snowy salt lake city.

and, i’m speaking on a panel, which is a very first for me. i’m very proud to be speaking at alt summit with gayla trail from you grow girl and sarah jane wright, of sarah jane studios, with our wonderful moderator emily Goligoski of the san franista. we’ll be chatting about how to build a business and your brand from blogging, and other social media outlets, as well as hosting a Q & A session with our audience.

i’m also super excited to meet the alt attendees, and my fellow bloggers and illustrious speakers, as well as my super fun roommates erin loechner of design from mankind, and jamie Derringer from design milk. can you say, ‘sleep over’!?!
