this is just a quick, instagram version of sunday in the city, because as you can see — i visited the alameda flea market, and after four+ hours of wandering every aisle, alas i did not find much to speak of. a cute bespoke bag, a black tin box to stash stuff bedside; some metal filing bins for the office, and another lamp to which i added a filament bulb to and threw into the collection. it was sunny and glorious out, and very very crowded. i thought everyone would stay home watching some football game, but instead they were swooping up the scores at the flea!

i spent this sunday at the alameda flea market, and a good time was had by all. it was my friend suzanne’s first visit, and she was my little good luck charm — we scored so many awe-inspiring finds. here’s a peek at our sunday in the city.

Sorry, but I’m just not a big fan of football. I think it’s the ubër tight uniforms, grunts and all that slapping each other on the bum. And it hurts me just to see these guys slamming each other onto cold, rock-hard AstroTurf. Give me a civilized game of tennis or a Tour de France, any day, or even some basketball. But that’s just me.

So, if you happen to be of my ilk, and in the bay area here’s a reminder. It’s the 1st Sunday of the month, so that means the Alameda Flea Market is on this Sunday! Skip the Super Bowl and the three-layer bean dip and hit the flea market. I’m hoping everyone’s home on their sofas and Lazyboys with a six-pack in their laps, so there’s lots of good bargains left to be had by the rest of ‘us’. Go team flea!

as of saturday, october 31st: important update: this article says the Alameda Flea Market is back on.

what the heck is going on? is it the end of the world? first, the bay bridge closes for more repairs (which i in no way make light of – it’s a commuters’ disaster), but now, what really hits me close to my heart is the possible closure of this month’s Alameda Flea Market.

i originally posted per a banner on the official Alameda Flea Market website that it would be closed, based on this statement they released saying “Proceedings have been commenced for the voluntary dissolution of Antiques By The Bay, Inc. As a result the show scheduled for Nov 1, 2009 will not take place.” Now, that banner has been removed from the site, and I hear rumors it’s all due to feuding partners. so, it sounds like it could be back on and you could take your chances. that’s the latest news i have (6:15pm). however, with the bay bridge still closed, personally, i’m finding another way to spend my sunday.

i do apologize for all the confusion, but their official website has had quite conflicting news. I don’t know what this means going forward, but it’s sad news for vendors (and vintage, antique shop sellers) who depend on their living from these shows, and buyers like a lot of us who adore it if it should shut down. I’ll keep you posted!

guess where i was today? c’mon guess — you can pretty much figure out that it’s the first sunday of the month, therefore i was alameda flea market bound. it was really quite a perfect day there – the sun shining, not too chilly, and full of great eye candy (i love the people watching almost as much as the shopping). i didn’t find what i was looking for ( a new desk chair and a credenza for the hallway), however found a few small, but happy little treasures. here’s a look around the alameda flea today.

As is my usual practice, the first Sunday of the month, I found myself at the Alameda Flea Market. Five hours later, and few dollars less flush, I came away with some fun finds. A wonderful wee globe, a beautiful old gray bauer bowl, and some perfectly sized end tables for my balcony, not to mention, some fun photos. I felt that familiar rush I get from a great day at my favorite flea market. Here’s a peek at my day at Alameda. Oh, and I have some family business to take care of the rest of the day, so i’ll see you back here on tuesday.
