remember me? it’s danielle from the jealous curator! i’ve been away for awhile, but i’m finally back, and boy oh boy i am soooo excited about this new series. yes, i’m buying art for some very interesting clients – the totally fictitious kind! first up, one of my most favorite movie characters, margot tenenbaum of wes anderson’s “the royal tenenbaums”:

oh margot. so complex, so sad, and almost always in a fur coat. yes, for obvious reasons, i think she would be very drawn to these gorgeous paintings by alex kanevsky:

stunning, yes? now, given margot’s life-long love of bizarre animals {who she often wrote plays about, as a child}, i would absolutely show her this strange, narrative, hilarious work by kelly puissegur:

um, yes. we’re going to need all of those paintings. now, speaking of animals, let’s not forget her love of the museum of natural history. these are photographs of museum displays, by jason demarte, that he then overlays with a perfect amount of graphic, brightly hued dots:

so, we’ve checked off fur coats and weird animals, but i don’t think margot’s walls would be complete without a few of these addictive little paintings by vincent pacheco:

yep. wrap ’em up – i’ll take all three. and finally, when i started thinking about my totally fictitious client i just knew that we’d have to get a few pieces by alexandra levasseur. beautiful girls, surrounded by florals, who seem to be a little bit broken – i thought margot would identify:

sigh – lovely, and sad. just like margot tenenbaum.

photographer sharon montrose recently shared photos with me of her los angeles-based loft and i was most excited to show you, too. the clean airy workspace is located above sharon’s garage (converted from an ugly old attic space) and is where sharon and her studio manager run The Animal Print Shop. i’ve long been a fan of sharon’s prints, and was even lucky enough to have had her photograph lucy! sharon has a new book coming out soon, too — aptly titled, menagerie. you can check out sharon’s very own menagerie in her animal print shop.

bunnies, and deer, and bears, oh my! yes. it’s true. i have a thing for animals in art – and obviously, so do a lot of other people, because this curated collection is filled to the brim with wild creatures. granted, some are a little less intimidating than others, like that bear wearing her red mary-janes. love!

two of my favorite photographers, elizabeth soule and sharon montrose, have teamed up to share their work in a truly collaborative and unique way. sharon and elizabeth thought it would be fun to photograph two of the same animals, so they both went in search of a lion and a tiger (toys for elizabeth, real live for sharon) and behold, wild animal kingdom! oh, let’s just all say “yippee!” right now, because photographer sharon montrose has a brand new animal print shop, and it’s awesome.

sharon’s one of my favorite photographers, not only for her elegant, beautiful photos of all sorts of critters, but for her love for them, too. if you’ve never seen her etsy storque video with a behind the scenes look at a baby giraffe shoot, and how she came to work with animals, it’s a must-see, and truly an inspiring piece of footage.

but back to the new animal print shop! i’ve longed for one of sharon’s prints, blown up huge on one wall, and now they’re available in a range of large (and small) format prints, some as large as 30″ x 40′, which would be fantastic! i’m picturing that reindeer on my big black wall, but i find the donkey and that pony pretty endearing, too.

the animal print shop site is streamlined and beautiful, (with a fun new logo designed by artist leigh wells) and showcases sharon’s work beautifully. there’s even some wonderfully styled photographs of rooms with sharon’s prints on the walls so you can get a sense of how great they would look in your place. i’m excited! moo, meow, woof!
