living in the pink.

shilobyrd.

what’s black and white, and pink all over? these rooms, that’s what. i really love a good jolt of pink in a mostly monochromatic room of white, with a nice dose of black and some natural woods thrown in for good measure. it’s almost like living in a bag of those british licorice allsorts! i’m dying for more pink in my place, like maybe a few lovely area rugs like some seen here, or some of this yummy wallpaper adorning an accent wall. not too much, but just enough pink!

i spy: le french poodle.

simply hue.

when i think of french poodles, i think of pink & black. i’ve got no idea why – probably some stereotypical subliminal advertising ingrained in my sponge of a brain. but fifi’s are usually pink & black, right? so anyhow, today i spy le french poodle. ouí!

vintage finds for a modern world: black is the new black.

i guess it’s pretty clear by now, i’ve got an obsession with black going on. i don’t think i’m the only one though, i’m seeing tons of black accents in all kinds of decor everywhere i look. i went looking for some modern, vintage finds on etsy, and tried to keep it pretty affordable, too! here’s to black!

i’ve gone to the dark side.

it’s time for me to share a little bit more of what i’ve been doing to decorate my new house. this weekend i just wasn’t feeling the dining room. it felt kinda blah, without any distinct personality. so i called up my favorite painter and asked him for more chalkboard black walls! i’ll admit it, i’m kind of addicted to this look, and the sunroom is definitely one of my favorite places to hang out, and guests seem to feel cozy in there, too.

so, now, i’ve got some really dramatic, dark walls with pretty white crown molding. i love it! this is two coats of rust oleum’s black chalkboard paint (the best price i’ve found to date is at home depot). i’m still afraid to actually to take chalk to it, and i still need to accessorize, figure out the artwork situation, and locate a great chandelier, but here’s how the dining room is looking thus far.

baby’s got black.

i would love to have a black leather or naugahyde sofa. i adore the sleek lines and dramatic statement a black mid-century modern, or a big tufted black baby could make in a room full of white.

i’d even be quite happy a wonderfully upholstered fabric sofa (like this rockefeller sofa via jayson home & garden, above). i’m constantly on the lookout for a great vintage bargain find, on craigslist and ebay, and when i find the right one, mark my words, i will swoop! baby will have black!
