kindred is coming to san francisco and to makeshift society specifically for a 2-day holiday pop-up shop! please join us for two days of holiday shopping on december 15th from 11-7 and december 16th from 11-5. A project by Lynn Russell of Satsuma Press and Teresa Robinson of Stone & Honey, kindred will offer the work of over a dozen makers from across the US and Canada. After many years of navigating overwhelmingly big holiday markets, both as shoppers and as vendors, Lynn and Teresa wanted to create a well-edited, small-scale event that would bring together a select group of makers and those who appreciate their work.

one of my favorite artists is at it again — creating beautiful images to enhance and enchant our walls. camilla engman has created a new studio line – studio morran in honor of her awesome little dog, morran and their adventures among the woodland creatures. i love these latest prints, and in fact ordered all three the moment i saw camilla tweet about them. there’s a new calendar for 2012, too. check out studio morran.

You know what are really useful? Wall calendars. so handy, you just take a gander and in an instant you know what’s up, or if you’re like me, what day it is.  you and me, the royal we made a wall calendar that is useful in the time mapping sense, and aesthetically friendly. as i posted earlier this week, it’s san francisco’s open studios this month, so in honor of studios des artistes, this fab friday i thought i’d share a round-up of some of my favorite and very fab artwork out there on the Internet, and not just to hang on your walls!

yippee! camilla engman’s brand new calendar for 2011 — a wonderful way to begin again!

not officially artwork, but certainly a work of art to hang on your wall, vintage body chart from trampoline.

i think we all share some big love for camilla engman’s artwork. there is just something i find in it full of charm and charisma. i’m very excited because my new 2010 calendar arrived this weekend from camilla’s shop. and, another reason to adore her calenders is because as the months pass by, the images are also quite frame-able — you can order the calendars on her website.

I was excited as well because my 4-pack of camilla’s journals arrived from twig, which are my go-to notebooks for keeping track of just what the heck i’m supposed to be doing each day. you can visit camilla’s  website to peruse and shop the calendars, as well as more of camilla’s beautiful paintings, screenprints and illustrations, and visit twig for camilla’s beautiful notebooks.

I received an email from Twig this morning, with some exciting news! The new 2009 Camilla Engman Calendar is available for pre-order (arriving in early October) in the Twig shop. I love Camilla’s artwork, and look forward to keeping track of my busy days with her artwork gracing my walls. And, I’ll bet as the months pass by, the beautiful images might be suitable for framing afterwards.

Etsy recently focused on the wonderful work of Julie Belcher. Julie and her partner Kevin Bradley started an old school letterpress printmaking studio Yee-Haw Industries, about 12 years ago in her Mom’s back yard. YeeHaw now has a small retail store in the front of their historic downtown Knoxville, Tennessee studio. They also have an etsy shop, chock full of their amazing letterpress work, which reminds me of another Tennessee institution, Hatch Show Print. Take a look at some of YeeHaw’s fun and fabulous letterpress prints, posters, calendars and cards and paper goods.

YeeHaw uses 100% recycled papers in their poster work and have continued to produce high-quality, hand printed, art-like products on recycled papers. They hand carve their original illustration in wood block and lino cut, and hand typeset with antique fonts. Yeah for YeeHaw!

If this has happened to you recently, get off the internet immediately and head directly to your nearest hospital. We never seem to remember what the date is, but when was the last time you forgot the month? That’s why I think this wee little, never expiring calendar is genius! You just flip through the days, one at a time and you’ll never forget the date again. Perfecto! Simple, cute and available at Doe.

Talented ceramic designer Diana Fayt has a newly designed calendar out for 2007. It’s twelve beautiful pages of Diana’s designs printed on Japanese paper. I love her charming works of art – they make me want to display all 12 months at once! I’m thinking of clipping them to wire and stringing them all above my desk for artistic inspiration.

A calendar from a ceramics artist may seem unusual, but Diana has been venturing into the world of graphics and illustration on and off for the past few years. She had previously produced a calendar in 2005 which were sold mostly in Japan and a small number of them here in the States. 2006 proved to be a busy year for her much in-demand ceramic work, so after skipping a year, she’s back at it for 2007. It all worked out well, in fact, because she had a head start for this year. There are just a limited number printed of Diana’s calendars and they are going to be featured in the December issue of Domino Magazine’s gift buying guide, so I suggest ordering soon, while they last. A beautiful way to ring in the New Year.
