a room with a view.

tucked away in the isle of wight, is this dreamy little cottage, complete with a veranda with view of the sea. ahhhh, can you imagine running away to hide out in this little place? after the hectic week i’ve had, i’m on my way there in my head as fast as my imagination can take me! discovered via light locations, this tiny summerhouse is secluded in a lush little setting beside a pond, with lilypads even! i’m off to dream — see you all tomorrow!

a month by the lake.

sometimes i dream about a month by a lake. in a cabin, or some rustic old lodge. kind of like dirty dancing, but maybe with a little less dancing. just picnicking, and canoeing and hiking through the woods. drinking sweet tea on really warm evenings, and watching fireflies in the summer sky. i grew up in southern california, and have no firsthand knowledge of this whatsoever. it’s all in my head. but this is what i imagine it to be like. did you have a summer camp? what was it like?

down by the seashore.

via idathue.
i think all the rain this weekend in san francisco has got me seeking sunshine. and, after spending some glorious days in the warm weather down in palm springs, i was ready for a little more, but this time in the guise of some time down by the seashore. who doesn’t relish some time away alone, tucked in cozily at a beach cottage? here’s an idea of what i’d like my beach cottage to look like – comfy, with a fresh, clean vintage-modern twist.

a frolic in sweden!

i recently came across some lovely and amazing interior inspiration, when chelsea fuss added her images to the sfgirlbybay flickr pool. chelsea, is a floral and prop stylist from Portland, Oregon and a blogger at Frolic!, a beautiful daily lifestyle blog. last year, chelsea was looking for a change of scenery and an adventure, and decided to realize a lifelong dream of visiting Sweden. ooooh, me too! one of things i love about swedish interiors is all that crisp white, and then those bright flashes of color everywhere you look – inside, and out.

the cottage chelsea stayed in is located near the landlord’s lovely house, and both the cottage and the home have grass roofs! both homes are built like old-fashioned Swedish log homes so they have a very historic feel to them — everything is whitewashed in that incredibly gorgeous, Scandinavian way — from the clapboard ceilings to the wood floors. This location worked perfectly for chelsea, since she photographs how-to stories for websites and needed an all-white backdrop, and the cottage made for a lovely one. you can see more wonderful styling from chelsea on her blog, frolic!

The property is located on the tiny but charming island of Resarö, 45 minutes from Stockholm and in the Stockholm Archipelago (if you’re not familiar this, it is a collection of 25,000 islands off the coast of Sweden), and one of the best bits? it’s actually available for summer rentals through this website!

and the landlord’s home is just as charming as the cottage, with lots of eclectic furnishings and each of the children’s rooms decorated cuter than the next, with b&w portraits of the three of them hung in contrast to all that yummy white. i think i need to put this cottage on my travel agenda, and right away! thanks again for sharing chelsea!

down by the seashore.

today, in honor of all the wonderful contributions made to the new sfgirlbybay flickr pool, i thought i’d scour the group for some beach cottage inspiration. you know, the kind of soothing home away from home, down by the sea, that you just want to curl up in, whether the sun is blazing, or the cold fog has rolled in — it’s just plain comfy cozy! grab a good book, or start a new craft project, or light a fire and bake some fresh bread. just hang out, barefoot and happy snuggled in your favorite slouchy khaki’s, a t-shirt and softest sweater. can you feel it? thanks for all the amazing, inspiring contributions to the group, so far everyone! keep ‘em coming! i look forward to sharing much, much more.
