i love these original illustration prints from edubarba’s etsy shop. they remind me of an exhibit i saw at london’s tate museum on soviet era propaganda posters. bright, fun and graphic! they are definitely ‘SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS’.

i do like a bit of industrial strength edge to my decor. a few strong, muscular pieces thrown around a pretty room, add character and a hint of rugged masculinity for contrast. boy meets girl, girl meets boy…it sometimes works! so today i’ve got my i spy on the softer side of your typical factory girl.

now this is a creative and high-tech idea — patchwork wall panels from ixxi that you create yourself from your own photo enlargement. brilliant!

‘e’ is for excellent, from typos; i’ve always wanted some vintage bertoia chairs, like these from dusty deco; love this wilcox stool from anthropologie; ummm, did you have any idea my idol diane keaton has a line of dinnerware, k by keaton? well, she does! hey, we can’t always be number one, there’s no shame in being number two, from vintage seventy five; love this caroline gomez petit torche lamp i saw over on design milk…industrial and pretty! and this is fun little entry piece — the atrium console table from urban outfitters.

you can crown yourself king or queen with this wall art from 33 stewart avenue; i would very much like this far & wide wall sconce to show up on my doorstep; and even chipped up old chairs look pretty great in the right setting, via red magazine; the mash studios PCH series console shelf is functional looking, yet totally stylish; i think a bon bon tin needs a new life, from sunday brocantes; and how about displaying some cute lollipops? love these fancy filigrees from vintage confections.

so, now that i’ve gone and swapped all the rooms around, i find myself staring into an abyss of this giant blank wall in my dining room. it’s a large room, so i’ve gotten the notion that a little sitting area in the dining room might be nice. you know, when everyone’s too full to move, but doesn’t want to leave the party? they can collapse on a little settee and still join in the conversation. they may have to fight over it, because this one’s not large, but hey, we’re all friends, just squish!

i wanted something that wasn’t too big, and not too much like my other sofa, so i opted for this charcoal gray daydreamer settee from urban outfitters. i think because it’s almost more decorative, and not used everyday, it will work just fine, and was within my budget. plus, i’m gonna jazz it up with a few of these ideas.

i like the idea of hanging my chalkboard above it, to add some vintage, not-too-fancy contrast, and it’s a great spot to post my dinner party menus; i’ve also loved the idea of a plate collection, like this one i saw in lonny. the bar cart is quite a nice idea, too! and, that all still works within the context of a dining room. i really like this zigzag area rug from urban outfitters, too, but its discontinued, so i’m hoping it makes a comeback, or i find it elsewhere. any ideas? oh! nevermind – lookie here, jordan found one!

i quite like the idea of this vintage industrial clip lamp, attached to the chalkboard as a kind of spotlight. hmmm…and, naturally, i’m also going to need some end tables, especially with an armless settee, and i like this matching black & gold pair from tini vintage.

The Blackbird Sings is the work of Natasha Newton, artist, illustrator, obsessive book collector and nature lover, dividing her time, living between the beautiful coastal county of Suffolk in the UK and in Paris, France. i find Natasha’s art to be so soothing and calming, just like the nature, birds, and a love of astronomy she is inspired by.

natasha also enjoys experimenting with different surfaces for her paintings, so alongside the more traditional canvas, paper and woodblock, you will also find natasha’s paintings on objects such as wooden boxes, sycamore plates, and smooth pebbles found during walks along the beach. i just had to give a shout out to designer satsuki shibuya of ZAKKA NOUVEAU this morning! i am so in love with these sweet fabrics and the adorable accessories made from them. zakka nouveau will be releasing a limited edition project called ‘stitch+connect’ where each day, for the next month, a special product will be made. 100% of the sales from stitch+connect (minus shipping + materials) will be donated to the buyer’s choice of charities satsuki has listed, who are contributing to aid in japan.

what’s this stitch+connect concept? each product will be uniquely different and assigned a unique limited edition number, and will include patchwork from remnant fabrics, which is the ‘stitch’ part + to drive home the idea that one can contribute somehow with the things that they have around them = the connect part!  born and raised in los angeles, satsuki is also a blogger, and a self-described “nature-loving, kooky japanese-american girl who is ironically allergic to raw fish and sake”. love her work!

i recently posted about the adorable painting marisa haedike of creative thursday painted of miss lucy. many of you were quite enamored with it, so i’m happy to say i convinced marisa she should add the lucy print to her etsy shop.

i’m staying at my good friend photographer casey mooney’s house in palm springs this week, and thought y’all would enjoy seeing how she’s cleverly displayed some of her artwork. much like me, she has a hard time choosing what to share and where in her home, so she’s scattering her art about on these great steel picture rails from room & board, and can change them around at whim, without having to put holes in her walls. casey’s house is a mid-century modern alexander house, designed by William Krisel, and the picture rails blend in really well, as does her artwork.

i’m usually jonesing for a flea market visit at least once a month, and it’s been raining like every bloody sunday that the alameda flea should be hosted. so, alas, rained out. over and over. so i go on etsy and get my vintage fix. i find a really good proportion of vintage etsy very fairly priced, so i can usually gratify my vintage longing and lust without spending a ton of cash. here’s a few recent favorite finds.

Saarinen tulip chair – a great find from hindsvik; bright orange fondue pot – so cute for entertaining, from cathode blue; vintage tin toy star canisters are so great for storage from sushi pot parts; mixed mid-century modern cocktail tumblers from 5 gardenias; and an awesome soviet union era alarm clock from clockwork universe.

i find these old industrial looking commercial displays to be so handy and cute for storage, from trampoline.
