wanted.
i’m starting a new weekly post: wanted. we all have wish lists. stuff we don’t necessarily need, but we definitely want. sometimes i don’t even need to actually purchase these things. i just need them to inspire me, to ignite my imagination and help me create. but sometimes, i really, really want them, and sometimes it passes, or has fueled another fire. it’s okay to want, you don’t always have to have. but here’s what’s wanted this week around the house.

1. a whole row of beautiful penguin classics; 2. a few vintage bistro chairs for my garden, from Maison Rêve; 3. this gorgeous blue coral linen wall hanging from natural history.

1. i’d love this lindsey adelman pendant lamp for my dining room, via plush palate; 2. these mongolian lamb pillow covers from west elm are cozy; 3. i love this gorgeously soft klippan retro wool blanket from huset.
1. jennifer o’keeffe’s wall of fame photographic print from the beholder is super rad (found via the jealous curator’s guest curator set!); 2. charming fog linen tablecloths – i want a checked one; 3. i quite like this retro fun 8 x10 independence collage from ironside’s etsy shop.
so, that’s what’s wanted this week. what do you want? anything you want to share?
maison de plaisance.

i received an email from karine, partner in one of my favorite online shops, bodie and fou, sharing some wondering images of her family’s holiday home in France. it was recently featured in a few design magazines and since we all share the same aesthetic for beautiful things, she allowed me to share a few more of some extremely beautiful photos shot by Michael Paul for The Telegraph magazine, and Christopher Tubbs for Grand Designs magazine.

Karine and Elodie, french Sisters and founders of BODIE and FOU have the kind of accessible, but oh so casually chic aesthetic i think we all strive for, but seems to come effortlessly for the two. i could move into this home in like two seconds, should i be invited! and one of the the best ways to appreciate the BODIE and FOU look is to see more of Karine’s family holiday home in France.

Karine loved the idea of a home ‘having enough space for friends and family to hang out together’ and one summer while visiting her parents’ home in Cazaux on the south-western Atlantic coast, in a very spur of the moment decision, she and her partner Steve bought a seventies ‘maison de plaisance’ (literally a ‘pleasure house’ now used to mean a holiday villa) and set about thinking ‘how we could bring together our tastes to create a welcoming, child-friendly home.’

karine designed the home so that ‘everybody, friends and family, could feel free to do whatever they wanted’, so the couple knocked out the wall between the kitchen and dining room, creating a living space big enough for a dozen people. the result is a relaxed, cozy and enchanting home i think would be the envy of any family. for more styling tips and beautiful home decor furnishings and accessories, check out the bodie and fou blog, as well as their online shop.

guest post: pinterest.
today, ben silbermann, our lovely host from pinterest is sharing his own ‘pin it forward‘ post.

Morning: I’m a morning guy. I like waking up early and drinking ice coffee in one of my favorite cafes. I don’t always sit down for breakfast, but I enjoy it when I do. I treasure the quiet time before the day starts, reading a newspaper and marveling at all the things that happened while I was asleep. Despite what people say, the world is actually a REALLY big place.

My mouse movements over just 1 hour. By the end of the day, most of that screen would be black. I used iograph to make the image.
Loving Your Work: I love the internet. That sounds silly to most people, even here in Silicon Valley. But if people can love TV or movies or books, I think it’s ok to love the internet too. I could write pages and pages on why, but suffice to say that this is why I first moved to California and worked for Google, and why I couldn’t be happier as the co-founder of a startup.

If you live in SF and you use Pinterest, you should come to our meetup on July 9th at Rare Device.
I’m lucky to be building Pinterest with 2 friends — Yash and Paul. If you ever write in with a question about Pinterest one of us is reading your email. We’re all floored by the incredible people who are use Pinterest to share their taste, and it’s great to see the site grow and improve everyday. Doing a startup is a hard work, but my “job” couldn’t be more fun.

Picnic Lunch: Nothing better than a lunch on the beach.

True to my roots, my favorites meals involve corn on the cob and pork.
But while I have your attention, I want to clear up a couple misconceptions about the midwest, or the “flyover states” as my college friends used to joke. Iowa IS full of farms. There IS a state fair (it’s amazing). But, there are also nice restaurants and museums and bars. The people I grew up with are worldly and well-read and kind. I had electricity AND running water. I went to the mall, even during the harvest!

downtown Des Moines, IA. My hometown!
Spending Time with Family and Friends: My only regret living in California is that I’m not closer to family. Thank goodness for the internet, so I can bore my friends with adorable pictures of my nephew and videochat with my Grandpa.

Above: Me and my nephew, Elliot.

My Mom, Grandpa, Grandma and Aunt. All spectacular people.
Movie & Dinner: A confession. I’ve been watching fewer “films” and more movies. Maybe it means I’m getting older. My favorite nights are spent with Divya. We watch movies while making dinner (usually Indian food). I’m looking forward to many years of this routine.

A Polish poster for one of my all time favorite movies: Raiders of the Lost Ark).
California Stars: What night wouldn’t be complete without a little time under the California Stars. I’m spoiled by the weather here and I intend to take full advantage.

That’s home for me. I hope you enjoyed it! If you ever want to get in touch about Pinterest or just to say hello, drop me a line: ben (at) pinterest (dot) com.
oh, bon jour!

oh, take my breath away, why don’t you? i was checking out the eye candy houses on light locations and came up with this one in nimes, france. i can imagine a month here, reading, cooking gourmet meals fresh from the farmers market, or, not doing one bloody thing at all. no computers, just fresh air and lots of open space. i go on holiday next week, and i think i’m really in vacation mode already!
