i spy: sunshine.

i think i must be fighting off the ever approaching winter with all i’ve got these days. i painted the living room bright white this week (more on that to come) and am decorating with brighter colors to contrast all that snowy white. so today, i spy sunshine. lots of white with some snappy pops of orange, yellow and more!

i love peering into artist’s studio spaces. just the look of all that organized chaos (or as the case may be, disorganized chaos) in someone’s work space inspires and fascinates me. i’m the kind of person who likes an orderly work space to get things checked off the check list, however i secretly admire the decadence of beautiful disarray. but today, i thought i’d poke around some studios work spaces that keep it pretty clean, but still have that artistic touch.

i could really use some flat files, like these from emma’s design blogg; i love these two images from leslie williamson of art collections decorating the work space; and vintage flash cards decorate this work space, via apartment therapy.

clipboards adorn this wall and keep things tidy, by Finnish stylist Susanna Vento, via emma’s design blogg; mid-century modern vintage-inspired office via vogue living; love this inspiration wire from vee*; some great desk lamps, via karen mordechai; a great card catalog for organizing those pesky scraps of paper from factory 20; and probably the most perfect working room ever, as seen in junk style’s, via the city sage.

there’s a new year creeping up on us quickly (how the heck did that happen?) and i’m all for some new inspiration! so i thought i’d round up some, well, very inspiring, inspiration boards. that’s a whole lotta inspiration for one paragraph! it’s time for me to rotate out my inspiration board (above) and wire (below)! i like the organized chaos of these boards. how do you like to store and display your inspiration?

hi! it’s meighan here, from my love for you. so excited to be here this week and share my inspiration. over the weekend i saw ‘black swan’, and i have to say when the movie ended i wasn’t sure how i felt. i knew i liked what i had seen, but i wasn’t blown away immediately. i had extremely high expectations going in, so right there it’s easy to be let down. but after the movie sunk in for a few hours i realized i could not stop thinking about it since i had left the theater. and i basically have been in that state since saturday. i’ve been devouring everything online about the film. it truly was gorgeous. natalie portman was incredible. the ballet costumes by rodarte were breathtaking. this week’s post is an ode to black swan. enjoy!

Hello, readers! I’m Erin from the blog, dudley. it’s so great to be guest blogging for sfgirlbybay. I’m a huge fan, and feel so honored to be a part of one of my favorite blogs. Welcome to the dudley pages! I’ll be bringing you inspiration of all kinds. Let’s get started, shall we?

So, let me tell you a little something about myself. I’m a makeup artist and aspiring hairstylist that writes a blog featuring all things beauty, design, home, and fashion related. I like to profile people on the street with great hair and unique style, photographers, artist’s and musician’s, editorial photo shoots, and anything I find inspiring.

Today’s post is all about different work spaces, styling out your gadgets, and my new favorite 9 to 5 looks. So with that said, here we go!

I absolutely love vibrant punches of color in a work environment, like this office in Sweden designed by Ragnars. Color blocking in an ordinarily bland space adds so much depth and character. I find it energizing and playful; keeping you on your toes when things need to get done. Plus, it’s just fun! The desk of MaeMae Paperie designer, Megan Gonzales, was recently featured in Rue Magazine. All the colorful clippings, photographs, and supplies are neatly displayed in her studio. I especially like her stamps in the airtight glass jar.

This navy blouse belted with the green skirt worn by blogger, Lucy Laucht, has got to be the cutest work combo! She has mastered the art of the belt. It adds an eclectic vintage twist to the modern office attire while her bright bobbles show off an imagination. These iPad wallpapers by graphic designer, Simon Page, are some of the coolest I’ve seen. I’m obsessed with everything he does.

Simple, classic, and earthy. This uncluttered space is great for the home office. Comfortable yet clean and minimal. The use of leather, wood, framed photographs and art, give a worn-in and natural warmth. This whole loft is a design lover’s wonderland. The Delfin and Postigo residence in Madrid is really quite amazing. You can check out the rest of their pad here, on Yatzer.

I’m currently coveting this gorgeous Tilt iPad case from Austrian label, Hard Graft. Made from 100% wool and vegetable tanned leather, this case rolls up for support and gives a cushioned feel while typing. So luxurious, I guarantee you’ll catch a few envious glances. It’s the perfect holiday gift for that person who has everything!

Harper’s Bazaar Senior Fashion Market Editor, Joanna Hillman, has a young sophistication that incorporates high fashion pieces with simple, timeless silhouettes. This is one of my favorite looks of hers from Citizen Couture.

Inspiration boards are such a great way to get your daily fix of the things that truly speak to you. The little reminders, artfully arranged in a unique collage. I’ve had many, and you’d be surprised how effective these boards are. Mine have manifested, encouraged creativity and brought ideas and wishes to life. I just love how personal and expressive the process is. These are just a few that I found really neat. Try it!

pin it forward – some guidelines.

i’m getting excited to see everyone’s pin it forward pinboards on pinterest, as well as their companion blog posts! just to help clarify things a little, i thought a visual example would best help you better envision what we’re up to. so i’ve done a little sample post about our theme, ‘what home means to me’, in the post below this one.

so, first up, i’ve created a pinboard on pinterest of ‘what home means to me’ (above). here’s a screen grab, but you can see my sample pin it forward pinboard live, right here.

• basically, i’ve downloaded and installed the pinterest software to my computer, and added the ‘pin it’ feature to my toolbar. which is super simple, even for tech-challenged me! then, when i find something i like on the web, i click the ‘pin it’ icon in my toolbar, and then click the image. a window pops up and i fill in the info i want to save about the image, tags and click the blue ‘pin it’ button in the pop up box.

• it automatically saves my pinned images on the web to my pinterest pinboard – easy!

• now, to share my pin it forward pinboard with the rest of you readers, i’ve created an interpretation of my pinboard (see post below) here on my blog. and, i’ve linked it back to my original pinboard on pinterest. that’s all you do! i did this in photoshop, but you don’t have to get fancy, you can simply share your images as you normally would in a blog post. you can share some, or all — it’s up to you!

that’s it! i hope this makes pin it forward much clearer to you all! you’ll all be receiving your pinterest invites within a few days! i will introduce the beginning bloggers to you on wednesday, and lay out a few simple rules of etiquette. until, then start thinking about ‘what homes means to you’. i can’t wait to see!

i love seeing other creative people’s inspiration boards almost as much as i love creating ones of my own. there’s no better way to capture your vision, whether is be interior design, fashion, photography, or graphics than putting images that resonate with you together as a collection.

i keep design journals, too and love looking back to see my changing tastes over time. even what you stick up on your fridge can spark some ideas inside you. gathering colors, shapes and images that inspire you and keeping them within your eye-line can really help motivate your creativity. here’s a glimpse of some currently inspiring me.

monday’s mosaic mood: black & white & gray all over.

one of the things i love about flickr, or photography in general, is that a single image can inspire all kinds of interior decor ideas. when i saw this flickr image from reflect / refract (center), it made me feel all wintery and think of beautiful warm rooms decorated in shades of grays, black and white, so i put together a sort of inspiration or mood board, in the form of a mosaic.

i found many of these images from members of the h ♥ m e and sfgirlbybay pools on flickr, as well as my old domino deco files. as i’ve mentioned before, that’s why i feature a lot of photography on the blog — to hopefully jump start your creativity and promote a new way for you to look at the world. any simple image can inspire a whole new look, or color scheme.

this is another mosaic i created inspired by karina’s beautiful black & white image (center). i found some of these photos from anna at door sixteen, who always has a wonderful source of collected black & white decor images in her flickr photostream, as well as kirsten from SimplyGrove, souvenirs du passé récent and ivy style33, who also have some lovely images added to the h ♥ m e and sfgirlbybay pools. to make your own inspirational mosaic boards, visit big huge labs.

I’ve been feeling the need to for some new inspiration lately, and one of the ways I re-juice is to revamp my inspiration board and freshen it up a bit with a whole new look. So I checked out one of my favorite sources for creativity, the Flickr group, Inspiration Boards. Sometimes just the way you present an idea can give it new life and that alone can set off a creative spark within you. Whether it’s fashion, graphic designs, photography, or new plans for around the home, here’s a look at some great ideas and new ways to display your own bits of inspiration.
