happy wednesday everyone! so, i’m about to catch a plane on my way to alt summit, but before i go, i have some news – news that is actually thanks to a whole bunch of you! in september i wrote a girl crush post about american artist alyson fox, and i made a joke about hosting a ‘girl crush tea party’ using her beautifully illustrated line of dishware. it really was just me trying to be witty, but i ended up getting zillions of emails from people saying that they’d love to go to a girl crush tea party – so guess what!? it’s happening:

yay! so exciting! a day of inspiration, art, and tiny cakes hosted by some ridiculously amazing women artists. seriously, you will not believe who our hosts for the first four workshops are:

yep, i have a girl crush on all of them! i sure hope you can come – it’s going to be so much fun! for all of the in’s and out’s, click here! ok, i’m off to salt lake city (where i’ll have the pleasure of speaking on a panel with the lovely victoria smith!) see you back here in two weeks, perhaps with a new series underway! ~ the jealous curator xo

ps. thanks so much to victoria for allowing me to use the main image above. it’s from her photo shoot at lisa congdon’s studio. it was just so perfect, seeing how we’ll actually get to be in lisa’s studio on march 10th!

hello! so, i was going through my jealous curator archives, and i noticed that there was a bit of a trend. it turns out that i’m jealous of a lot of lisas. can you see where this is going? yep, today’s girl crush is my “ode to lisas”:

you really can’t have a lisa list without this lady! i have a huge art crush on san francisco based artist/illustrator lisa congdon. she paints, makes beautiful mixed media pieces, illustrates books, and turns blogs about collections of things into books. oh yes. very crush-worthy.

and now, from paper pieces, to photography:

oh boy. another san francisco based lisa. photographer lisa wiseman captures the lovliest polaroid images on her iphone. wait – what? yep, with her iphone. she refers to this as “the evolution of polaroid”:

“because the iphone has become a ubiquitous accessory, on-the-go picture taking is now the norm. people use their iphones to take spontaneous photos in the same carefree way that cheap polaroid film has been used in the past.”

ok, i really didn’t mean for all of these lisas to be from california, but here comes another one!

these delicate embroidery on duralar pieces by lisa solomon are next on my list. i have loved lisa’s work for ages, and hope you do too! she has so many amazing pieces in her portfolio, from domestic scenes to colorful doilies that actually represent toxins and viruses – a lovely juxtaposition!

alright, now we’re heading north, to portland:

oh, so pretty! little bits and pieces of sunny childhood memories brought lovingly to you by lisa golightly. swimmers, skaters, and the most magical marionettes you’ve ever seen! ok, and the last lisa on my list today is all the way from denmark:

oh. my. word. plates with owls, bunnies, and neon pom-poms?! are you kidding me? how can i not have a crush on lisa grue! not that i would actually eat off of these lovely works of art, but i’d definitely want to have a few of them hanging on the wall for my next tea party!

well, there you have it – a list of lovely lisas! see you in two weeks with another post full of fabulous work by fabulous girls ~ the jealous curator xo

“I am all about clean colorful styles these days. And the brighter and bolder the color, the better! I love these modern stripe vases so much. I think I’d want one in every color. The problem would be figuring out which rooms in the house to display them. And how gorgeous are these neon pink vases?!? I just about lost my breath when I saw them. My love for bold color is complemented by my love for black and white graphic designs. That’s why I absolutely love this Raindrops Print and these awesome Marimekko for Chuck Taylors. I think I’d look pretty hip walking myself down the street in those Chucks carrying this awesome tote bag by J.Crew (who does an amazing job integrating neon colors into their clothing and accessories lines, don’t you think?).”

“And, I’d also be wearing this necklace (spotted last week while shopping at Prairie Collective). This hot pink hand built road bike has been on my list for some time (what a better thing for a girl who rides her bike everywhere, right?).”

“I’ve had this gorgeous kitchen on my mind (and my imaginary list) since I spotted it several months ago. Wouldn’t it look pretty with all my colorful vintage enamelware on those shelves? I could cook up a storm in there after my long bike rides on my pink bike. And while I’m dreaming, I might as well dream REALLY big, right? On my travel list is a trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights and other sights in this beautiful country. Maybe I would even run into my hero Jonsi at a cafe where we would share a vegan meal together. Ah, that would be so very nice. Dreaming is fun.”
