the february issue of Harper’s Bazaar features model Bette Franke photographed beautifully in palm springs by Lachlan Bailey. i couldn’t help but be reminded that this Palm Springs location will host its annual Modernism Week this february 16 – 26th. modernism week is an eleven-day celebration of mid-century modern design, architecture, and culture in Palm Springs, California. if you’ve never been, i highly recommend a visit — pop into the ace hotel and take one of the tours of these racquet club estate mid-century modern homes. plus, it’s warm down there this time of year!

this fab friday is just a little different, but most definitely fab. last night in palm springs as part of modernism week, we attended the braniff show at the rivera – a collection saved from a single braniff stewardess’ closet during her years in the airline’s service, including some amazing emilio pucci and halston designed pieces. air travel was never so glamorous. the entire collection is owned by chelsea marketeers, and is up for sale. fancy a collection of your very own? just think of the costume parties you could throw!

can you imagine your flight attendant wearing emilio pucci’s space bubble helmet?

i’m not sure if i’ve told y’all, but i’m off to palm springs this weekend! it’s modernism week, and my good friend casey has a home there, so lucy and i are applying our sunscreen and headed to the desert for a week of mid-century modern madness. i’ll be blogging from there, so it’ll be a working vacation, but no matter, the wifi should work by the pool. as you may recall, i was there last year, and it’s become an annual event. let’s get in the mood, shall we? i spy a little palm springs style!

launching today, it’s modernism week in palm springs, california. my very good friend casey has been remodeling a home there, so i’m headed down tomorrow to visit, celebrate and take in some great mid-century modern design. palm springs, the kitschy social enclave of the likes of sinatra’s rat pack, bob hope and the very wealthy and extremely tanned, it’s also rich with classic mid-century modern architecture.

admist some date shakes, and besides basking in some warm desert weather, i plan to visit the ace, perhaps the parker, tour around town with my camera, and hopefully take in some fantastical modern home tours and events. so, i thought i’d share some of the swell stuff i’ve been dreaming of in anticipation for the trip. i’ll be blogging through wednesday from palm springs, so stayed tuned in.
