i love the work of artist jennifer collier. jennifer focuses on creating work from recycled paper; by bonding, waxing, trapping and stitching she produces unusual paper ‘fabrics’, which are used to explore the ‘remaking’ of household objects.

jennifer treats paper as if it’s cloth, with the main technique employed being stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles. The papers themselves serve as both the inspiration and the media for her work, with the narrative of the books and papers suggesting the forms. jennifer tends to find items, and then investigate a way in which they can be reused and transformed; giving new life to things that would otherwise go unloved or be thrown away. be sure to visit jennifer’s workshop & gallery space to view more of her incredible projects.

i’ve long been a fan of heather’s, a portland-based artist and the talented designer behind frazier & wing. heather designs the most incredibly delicate and and unique craft paper mobiles and garlands, and i’m pretty sure i’ve been watching her work since i began the blog in 2006. frazier and wing has a brand new website, and pretty new mobiles colors, so i thought i’d get you up to speed on heather’s latest flights of fancy.

today i’m super excited to share artist lisa occhipinti’s beautiful diy craft book, the repurposed library. the book features 33 projects share lisa’s unique, art-meets-craft aesthetic, as well as instructions to create your own projects and give new life to cast off books. and if perhaps you’re not super crafty, you can also find lisa’s beautiful paper sculptures in her etsy shop.

With an X-acto knife, glue, and a little ingenuity, the repurposed library shows you how “orphaned” books become home décor accessories, such as such as shelves, headboards and a little sewing box that lisa is sharing with y’all today — simply click this free [ downloadable PDF ].

i keep stumbling upon some pretty bright stars out there in the area of home lighting design. designers seem to be getting more and more inventive and inspired with their source materials, as well as re-purposing somebody Else’s discards into some beautiful fixtures. porcelain, paper, glass, wire…you name it, they’re creating lighting that truly glows. here’s a look.

Chloe is an amazing artist whose work will be celebrated this Friday evening at the curiosity’s shoppe’s opening party for her exhibit, San Francisco Made of Paper. pop by this Friday, February 18th to celebrate Chloe and her work and enjoy some snacks!

this etsy shop is just rad. it’s called umbu, and i love her re-purposed pendant lamps, made from recycled paper scraps – like maps, newspaper and magazine pages and even sewing patterns. so creative, and so very pretty. i love the light these umbu lamps give off, and the shapes and patterns the printed paper creates. take a look at umbu. i think you’ll like.

sometimes, there’s no better read than your very own words and ideas. i like keeping my own design journals, but these notebooks are pretty inventive, too. scout books are new, allowing you to create your very own book including cover art of your personal designs, and artwork (and interior artwork too on the text pages, if you are so inclined).
