hello everyone, it’s nicolle from sacred lotus photography. a couple weeks ago i shared a few images that were inspiring me while on my quest to decorate my new place. i’m still in the process but i thought it would be fun to share a few photos i took of how it’s coming along. back in the beginning of february my husband, son, and i rented a townhouse in southeast portland, oregon. it’s a small space (only 900 square feet) so i wanted to purchase a few used vintage pieces that were small yet would provide enough storage space for our living room.

1N

the first piece i picked up is a vintage credenza that i bought for only $20. it holds our tv and has a lot of drawers for storing our sons games, toys, and art supplies. the next piece i purchased was a vintage side table to go next to my reading chair. i love the fact that it already had lovely vintage wall paper lining the drawers when i got it. i’m sure it must have belonged to some sweet old lady! my living room also doubles as my office so i did some shopping around and found a tiny white desk for a great price at ikea that fit the space perfectly.

hello sfgirlbybay readers! it’s nicolle here from sacred lotus photography. it feels so good to be back guest blogging after taking a little break to move my family to a new house in the city. i’ve been a busy gal lately unpacking and getting all settled in to our new home. hopefully i can get the sun to stay out long enough here in portland, oregon to get some good shots of the inside of my place to share with you next week, but for now i would like to share a few photos that have been inspiring my design style lately.

have a fantastic tuesday! oxo nicolle

hello again sfgirlbybay readers! it’s nicolle here from sacred lotus photography. i’m happy to be back here with you all after a little holiday break. this year my husband, son and i celebrated christmas with family here in oregon. we enjoyed homemade mac & cheese and made yummy sugar cookies from a 50 year old family recipe.

one of the things i love most about the holidays is getting to bake and eat lots of delicious food with my family. i love how food can really bring people together. sitting down to enjoy a meal with loved ones is priceless. today i would like to share with you a few polaroid images that i think capture that warm happy feeling good food can give you.

wishing you all a happy new year!! oxox nicolle

hello again friends, it’s nicolle here from sacred lotus photography. since i’m a photographer it’s a given that i love all things with a camera design on it, and i’m very excited to share with you a few items that have stolen my heart recently. the first one being this ghost polaroid camera from yellow owl workshop, a san francisco based studio that makes limited edition paper goods, wedding correspondence, and beautiful items for the home.

5sl

next is this gorgeous polaroid flower vase created by designer jung hwa jin. her words about this piece “nature is also what i want to keep for a long time”. i feel the same way and would love to have a few of these in my home.

this illustrated print entitled ‘eloise takes a picture of ramona on her polaroid camera‘ by kate gabrielle of flapper doodle art & stationary quickly made it’s way on to my wish list this year, so adorable!

2sl

last by not least, is this fantastic retro inspired smile letterpress poster by roll & tumble press. now this is something i would love to wake up to every morning! all of roll & tumble press’s illustrations are hand carved into linoleum and hand fed one at a time into a vintage vandercook press. how cool is that!

that’s it for this week folks, stop by next week to see what i have to share. hope you all have a lovely tuesday! oxox nicolle.

hello friends! it’s nicolle again from sacred lotus bringing you a glimpse into the wonderful world of polaroid photography. there are many reasons why i love polaroids and one of them is the fun artistic things you can do after the photo is taken with different types of film. today i’m going to share with you just one of the many techniques for transforming your images into little works of art.

7s

the process is called image manipulation. to get started with this technique you will need a polaroid sx-70 or one-step camera, time zero or artistic tz film, and any object with a blunt tip. start off with taking a colorful photo, then right after it comes out of the camera start drawing on it with the blunt tip of a pen cap or a knitting needle (different objects give different effects) moving around the emulsion ink. the finished product leaves you with a polaroid that looks like a painting!

the amazing polaroids in this post are from flickr photographer silveroxide. heather has a wonderful collection of sx-70 manipulations. stop by her flickr stream to get inspired! see you back here next tuesday for more polaroid love!
