it’s most definitely a true-ism that i am in love with anything and everything created by studio violet. studio violet is a creative collaboration between two very talented swedish souls – elisabeth dunker and camilla engman. not coincidentally, two of my favorite artists.

i’m not quite sure how they do it, but i have an idea they were just born with a natural talent for taking the most simple and making it sublime. i thought i’d stop by studio voilet and share with you a random sampling of what camilla and elisabeth have been up to, on their website, and in their shop.

they’ve just published their Mr Mustache book! and it’s now available in english, too. you can see more pictures in the studio violet shop.

studio violet has also launched two new re-used porcelain collections this autumn. The collection is a small, exclusive one of a kind-series.

i’m a bit of a paper goods addict. stationery, cards, journals, notepads. anything printed — you name it, i want it. i love good looking paper goods and great typography, and could probably run a small stationery store from my office with all i’ve got stocked up. and yet — i can not stop! this week’s fab friday finds is all about ink on paper (and a few other good things!).

Saturate Your Curiosity!

Saturate is a local Berkeley-based silkscreened paper goods company, started by designer/architect Kate Lydon in 2004. How Does Your Garden Grow?

Spring has sprung and every thing’s blooming! Including a special give away at Pinkerton Design! Pinkerton is excited to be kicking off the spring season with a new series of Garden greeting cards, and they’re giving away a set of the 3 different designs, each boxed with 8 cards and envelopes to help celebrate. They’re also throwing in their cute gardening gnome “i dig you” card and the “happy birthday” party gnomes card!

In keeping with the “green” theme, the Pinkerton cards are printed on 100% recycled, post consumer waste paper with vegetable-based inks. They’re good to look at and good for the environment! The cards are also blank, so feel free to write any sentiment you like.

To be entered into the giveaway all you have to do is leave Pinkerton a comment on their blog and email them (so they can let you know if you’ve won!). The giveaway will end at 5pm on Sunday, April 5 and Pinkerton will draw the lucky winner and post the results on the following Monday, April 6. Good luck and happy Spring!

When was the last time you drafted a handwritten note? (And no, grocery lists do NOT count). Sadly, I recently realized that in 2008, I had sent perhaps three birthday cards and a few get well soon’s. Not gonna cut it for ’09, I decided, and have promised myself to send a card once/week this year to someone who deserves it. (Last week’s card was illustrator Rebecca Horwood because it was her birthday!).

Berkeley’s twig & fig opened in 2004 with the aim of making the most beautiful and original custom, couture invitations and they have not looked back since. It all began with the discovery of an 1890 letterpress in an old barn in the Napa Valley. As a great admirer and skilled technician of the letterpress, Serge Vigeant, one half of twig & fig, wasted no time in recovering this beautiful piece of machinery and set about mastering it’s operation. twig & fig’s other half and partner is graphic designer Suzie McKig, whose vision, artistic skill and ability to read and translate what her clients want, have drawn her great praise and a wide following from all over the world.

twig & fig’s beautiful letterpressed invitations and personal stationary are stunning, and all have an amazing creativity to them. Heavenly to the touch, the paper is sourced from a 400 year old mill just outside Prague. One by one, the letterpress pushes the letters and designs into this exquisitely thick and textured paper with beautiful, colorful inks.

Clients usually arrive with tentative ideas, a color, a picture of a favorite flower or bird, and Suzie and her design team are able to translate these inspirations into themes with originality and beauty. twig & fig have become famous for their seemingly limitless and delicate finishing touches. Invitations could be placed into a voluptuously thick hand-lined envelopes with the address handwritten by their gifted calligrapher, and finished with an in-house designed stamp. Or perhaps you may prefer it simply wrapped with a strand of soft mohair thread adorned with a simple piece of silk cord, vintage ribbon or the thinnest wrap of Japanese rice paper bound with a wax seal. Or maybe imprinted onto one of the silk or leather boxes the invitations could arrive in…at twig & fig, the possibilities are endless, and truly original and beautifully creative.

The twig & fig shop also represents loads of local letterpress artisans, and carry their lines of cards, as well as beautiful gifts, candles, wrapping papers, ribbons, journals, and a beautiful collection of stationary and notebooks. The setting alone is a lovely place to hang out, set in a craftsman-like shop just off Shattuck on Vine Street (and just around the corner from the infamous Chez Panisse, so it even smells delicious!).
