First up is the living room of Linda and John Meyers from Portland, Maine. Working together as Wary Meyers, the design duo are involved in everything creative from interior design to thrifting to writing. Perfectly retro, the living room features turquoise walls, a bold choice of sofa, and added texture with wallpaper and vintage cushions.

wary-meyers are two of my biggest heroes in the vast world of design. i love, what i think, is their lack of fear. they are just simply fearless when it comes to taking what they, say, perhaps found in a dumpster, giving it a good cleaning, some extra loving care and creating, or re-creating a thing of utterly unique beauty. the duo have a new DIY book out appropriately entitled ‘tossed and found’ and i couldn’t be more excited about it. they sent me a copy and a very nice note (no doubt having seen me gush on and on about the two talents for so long now) and i’m so excited to share it with you.

design team linda (formerly wary – they are now married) and john meyers’ new book ‘tossed and found – unconventional design from cast-offs’ is about ‘reducing, reusing recycling’, anything and everything — from reclaimed wood, to old furniture and lighting — all with detailed drawings and easy how-to instructions included. the team is in my eyes pretty much the expert extraordinaries of re-purposed home furnishings and decor, and in their new book they’ll teach you quite simply how to become their adoring and learned subjects. thanks for sharing your wisdom, ingenuity and creativity, linda and john — i am most happy to share ‘tossed and found’ with the readers. sorry, gushing, yet again. be sure and check out their website for more cool interiors.

I just received this month’s issue of Australia’s Real Living magazine (the October issue) and whoa….color! It leaped off the pages and instantly put me in a perky, happy go lucky mood. These rooms are just filled with bright hues and colorful patterns and lots of eclectic, funky and very ‘Wary-Meyers’ inspired rooms, one of my very favorite looks.

Same goes with the recent Anthropologie catalog – very euro chic indeed, and a wonderful resource for putting together your own eclectic look! Perhaps it’s no coincidence that John Meyers was formally a display director at Anthropologie – his hippie-chic taste seems to have stuck. I’m a huge fan of the design aesthetic of the Wary-Meyers team, and love how they work with what you’ve got, and add vintage bits and tons of color to a room to create interiors that are full of unique and individual personality, and ban any shred of cookie-cutter generic furnishings. I hope these inspire you to create your very own personal look!

I have just discovered my latest idols, Wary Meyers. Perhaps I’ve been living under a large rock, but have y’all seen their work before? From kitschy pet portraits, to graphic design, to music video sets and amazing interior design, this duo does it all. And really, really well. It’s bohemian modern, for sure, and yes, sometimes a bit over the top, but it’s so uniquely special in my eyes. John Meyers is a designer, and former display director, once wonderfully responsible for Anthropologie’s amazing store displays. Linda Wary is an advertising agency refugee (we all want to be!) and graphic designer. The two met in New York and started doing trend forecasting, and now are ‘Team Wary Meyers’. I want their jobs. They’re like the renaissance artists of the new design world.

Just take a look at some of their recent interior design installations. Pretty fantastic, and sometimes fantastical! And what I really appreciate is that a lot of the furnishings look like ‘found objects’ to me, from my usual sources, flea markets and yard sales. So, although I suspect their fee is not cheap, some of the pieces they use just may be. Which also helps to make them one of a kind, avoiding the cookie cutter cloning of some less original design firms.
