these images may be from j.crew’s 2009 holiday catalog photographed way down south of the border in a very wintery chile, but for me the styling remains pretty timeless. i love the unexpected layering and colors — sequins, sweaters, lime green, pink, puffys and maybe best of all, paired with worn-in and faded denim. j.crew is pretty great that way — while they always seem to be ahead of the trend, their look is undeniably recognizable, and yet still unique. even in 2013 you can create your own spin on these layering ideas, adding pieces from your own wardrobe collections and come up with something individually, uniquely you.

i’m in love with uniqlo’s new lookbook. it’s a little unusual perhaps, people interacting with insects, but it’s so pretty too! uniqlo is always a must-visit when i’ve been to new york, and they have just opened in san francisco’s union square, so i’ve been pretty excited about that! and, this season Uniqlo is introducing a new outerwear collection by designer Jun Takahashi from Undercover called the Uniqlo Undercover collection for Fall/Winter on Thursday, August 31. I could bundle up in any one of these pieces easily.

“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!” sorry — i got a little carried away there. anyway, you get my drift — this week i spy reindeer games. stags and antlers are everywhere, and deer, well they seem to always be in fashion. everyone loves a good bambi. those sweet doe eyes get ya everytime.

it’s chilly and gray here today, and the thanksgiving holiday is winding down, so i guess i’m really beginning to feel that wintery, homey hibernation coming on. it’s time to find good books to read, some crafty indoor projects, and really layer up with cozy sheepskins and warm fuzzy throws. so today, i spy some homey hibernation!

this monday’s mosaic mood is all about winter white. from cool gray whites, to warmer creamier tones, they all make me feel cozy and content. this top mosaic mood was inspired by the lovely reindeer image from CharmingLiisa. you know how i love white, and i loved every one of these beautiful images gathered mostly via flickr group pools, like a lovely one i recently discovered called Whites, Cream , DECOR!

this second mosaic’s mood was inspired by the pop of the white rabbit against the vintage looking wallpaper in the center image by lbv5000. i really like the contrast that creates.

i also always like white as the simple blank canvas for the basis of your decor, but then i really get inspired when it’s layered with other white furnishings, fabrics, and textiles, like a fuzzy flokati rug, or a stunning collection of white pottery, or even a simple rustic, yet elegant stool with a white crocheted cover (like the one you see in this next mosaic from wood & wool stool). i love all the different textures it creates, and yet also allows for you to brighten things up come springtime when you may like to add more color. viva winter whites!

i think there’s many who love the traditional red & green christmas decor. i, for one, am not one of those people. i mean, those colors may be considered complimentary colors on the color wheel, but personally, i don’t find them complimentary at all. i am all about a white christmas, with some shimmer of gold and silver and lots of candles and twinkling lights thrown in for good measure. i spy winter white!

hello, it’s me, mrs. french.  i am so happy to be with you this thursday morning!  it is brisk here in portland.  it is so cold that i feel the need to tell my husband how cold i am a few times an hour. it is an involuntary reaction, i can’t help myself.  i am not a huge fan of cold weather, however, i love the snow.  for some reason, i feel as if the snow makes the cold worthwhile.  i especially love the way snow looks from behind the lens.  bundle up and take a gander…
